Relay for Life 2020

Relay for life was a great success, with Greensborough College students staying overnight this year.  Interactors, parents, teachers and Year 12’s enjoyed walking, running and being wheeled around Willinda Park, to raise funds for Cancer Research.

We had an assortment of goodies at our stand this year – chocolates, biscuits, bubbles, photos, plants, token 2020 Relay Memorabilia (drink bottles and candy jars), as well as wheelchair rides.   This year our grand total is over $2300 so far – we still have the next 4 weeks to finalise donations- head to the website if you’d like to contribute to Relay for life at:

Ashley Finch (year 8) clocked up 101 laps of the track.  Thank you kindly to parents Samantha Harper, Andrea Finch, Stuart Fyfe, Allison Mitchell and Michelle Mollinaro with support, donations, setting and packing up and being a part of this year’s Team.  Ryan Melville, Jeremiah Semaan and Abhi Biji were spruking the fun of wheelchair rides and Poppy McConchie took charge of the Instant Memories – instant photos of people at the event - both raising a tidy profit for our team’s kitty.

Well done to the Interactors – Abbi Harper, Emily Harper, Ashley Finch, Hannah Fyfe (and younger brother Tobias), Ebony Stuart, Alex Mitchell, Poppy McConchie and Abhi Biju.  Pleased to see Year 12’s taking time away from their busy VCE, to assist and enjoy the event too!  Thanks to Jessica Williams, Ryan Melville, Isabelle Geraghty, Paige Kindred, Elyssa Rees and Jeremiah Semaan.

This year was bigger than ever with lots of staff on board.  Thanks to Stella Ramos, Meegan Triance, Jackie McDonald, Donna Osborne, Anthony Ellul, Cindy Carr, Di Zuell, Glenn Jenner and Pauline Barker.

With great weather, a variety of market stalls, Zumba,  jumping castle – there was fun for everyone.  This years’ Keynote address was by Caitlyn O’Kane, former Greensborough College student and cancer survivor.  She shared her experience of brain cancer at the tender age of 13 and her journey to now.  Her courage, tenacity and sheer determination is a testament of fighting back.   Caitlyn’s experience and the annual candle ceremony certainly  put into perspective what havoc this sinister disease causes.  This truly humbling event enabled us to raise funds for vital cancer research and support.

Next year will be even bigger!  Watch this space for Relay 2021….
