Assistant Principal's Report

Week 7 of Term 1 is fast approaching!

Annual Athletics Carnival is coming up on Friday 13th March which will be held at Willinda Park. This is a great day to participate in sporting events and to also get to hang out with mates. A reminder that students should come dressed in their house colours.

The year 7 orientation camp will be leaving on the 16th March for 3 day camp and by all account, students are set to have great time getting to know other students in the year level and their teachers.

School Photo Day was a great success and the follow up session will be on the 10th March, students have been reminded to come to the school theatre to have these completed. I would like to note the day ran incredibly smooth and hassle free. Overall our students came well dressed and ready to have their photos taken, well done to all students that showed pride in our school.

School Uniform It is also timely to acknowledge and celebrate the exemplary behaviour and compliance to rules pertaining to uniform demonstrated by the vast majority of students.  Most students are consistently attending in their correct uniform.  Also, parents and students are working constructively with the school to resolve issues related to particular uniform items.  We thank parents and students for their support and cooperation.

In line with this trend of positive compliance, we would like to remind parents and students of the procedures related to wearing incorrect uniform.  In instances where a student arrives not in correct uniform, they should report to the Assistant Principal Office before they go to class.  Ideally, they should provide a parent note explaining why they are out of uniform.

Senior School Elevate Parent Seminar

On the 16th March we will be holding an Elevate Study Skills session. The evening will commence at 6pm until 7pm and will be held in the School Theatre which is located near the Admin area on Nepean Street. Parents should book by the 13th March at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CG2C3TD

I have added the flier for the session to this week’s newsletter and hope parents who have students in Year 11 and 12 will take up this chance to understand how to help their child with their studies.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Professional Learning for Staff Tuesday 17th March students will be dismissed at 2.20pm, the school bus timetable will reflect the change of dismissal time.

Interim Reports and Parent, Student and Teacher Interviews

With Term 1 fast approaching, students are encouraged to work productively and to complete the term on a positive note.

With the release of Interim Reports scheduled for 23rd March, students and their parents will soon have access to information pertaining to student progress.  It is important to note that Interim Reports are a snapshot of how students are currently progressing in each of their subjects.  The report therefore provides an opportunity to review and reflect upon current performance and effort, and to plan for a successful Term 2.

Given that the Interim Report does not include descriptive assessments, it is best read and interpreted in conjunction with valuable information derived from attending our Parent, Student and Teacher Interviews, which are being conducted on Tuesday, March 24, between 12:00 and 6.30pm.  At these three way interviews parents and students have an opportunity to discuss student work and strategies for improvement.

Even in circumstances where a teacher has not recommended, or requested, that an interview be scheduled, we strongly recommend that all parents, and students, attend these important meetings.

International Women’s Day

On Sunday 8th March we celebrate International Women’s day. This is an important day that needs to be acknowledged. Please have a read of the article written by Jacqueline Melia who is part of our Positive Climate for learning team.
