Year 7 Boys Cricket
On Thursday, the 23rd March the Year 7 boys cricket team took the field at Pickett’s Reserve. We had two net sessions to pick a 1st XI, 2nd XI and a 3rd XI. First game was at District level, where we played Upwey High School. All our teams had a win against Upwey so we could pick the best team for the Knox Division Final against Rowville Sports Academy. We rocked up to Kings Park and got straight into our warm up. The batsmen got throw downs, bowlers had a bowl and some fielding. Aman and myself went to do the toss, it’s up and it’s down I call heads and heads it is. We decided to have a bat first.
Ryan and I opened the batting, we got off to a slow start but it wasn’t going to hurt much because the outfield was so slow. Our first wicket fell when I got run out. Ryan went on with his innings while Matt was playing a good batsmanship role. After 6 overs Wantirna was 1/15. Aman was set to come in next but we decided to send Parth in. He kept the runs ticking and got Wantirna to a respectable total of 8/79 off our 20 overs. Ryan and Max opened the bowling; it was tight so that they could not get us away. Max got our first wicket bowled leg stump. That wicket really set us off, the bowling was tight with wickets falling all around their rep player so we decided to bring a bit of spin into the attack. Matt and Jacob bowled in a partnership being our two spinners. Rowville were cruising until Jacob flighted one up to the rep player and he lofted it into the clouds, Robby came around and settled himself under the ball and took a great outfield catch.
It came to the stage where they needed 9 off 6 balls. Josh Morris bowled the last over, all we asked was to pitch it up. The last over was full of dots or wides. On the last ball, Rowville needed 4 to win. Josh bowled a cracking delivery that bowled the batsmen middle stump. It does not get better than this, first year of high school Knox Division champions and to beat a sports academy - how good!
Our next round is the Eastern Metropolitan Region. (EMR) We would like to thank Mr Brooks, Jackson and Lachlan for coaching us
Thank you

Senior Boys Cricket
On Monday the Senior Boys Cricket team travelled to Wangaratta to compete in the State Quarter Finals. In previous rounds they had defeated Box Hill High School, Lilydale Secondary College and in the EMR Final defeated Warrandyte High School. We were playing against Tallangatta Secondary College. Tallangatta won the toss and elected to bat first. With a couple of strong batting performances, they posted a total of 6 for 158 from 20 overs. This was going to be a big effort to get a higher score. We started well and after 7 overs we were 1 for 55 which was well on track to achieve the desired result. We lost a couple of quick wickets and after 13 overs we were 3 for 95. We continued to try to stack on the runs but just came up short to end up 7 for 144 from 20 overs.
Congratulations to the boys for their great efforts over all of the rounds in which they competed showing great skill and tremendous team spirit.
