Community and Service

Service with others is an important way to engage in principled action across a range of overlapping local and global communities. As part of the curriculum all students will be required to be involved in Service and Action. Learners at Preshil work to become caring members of the community who demonstrate a personal commitment to service and act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.

At Preshil we encourage students to become more aware and develop a better understanding of the needs in the community so that they will become empowered to make choices about how to take thoughtful and positive action. This action may vary from student to student and from one situation to another.  The action may involve students in:

  • feeling empathy towards others
  • making small-scale changes to their behaviour
  • undertaking larger and more significant projects
  • acting on their own
  • acting collaboratively
  • taking physical action
  • suggesting modifications to an existing system to the benefit of all involved.

Students and staff at Preshil contribute to the community in many significant ways, taking meaningful action to work towards building a more peaceful world. At Preshil we emphasise the importance of responsible and compassionate attitudes towards service to our local and global communities.

Continuous Reporting

Preshil has moved towards continuous reporting of students’ academic achievement. Using the Learning Tasks function in Compass, students’ results are entered online by teachers when assessment tasks are completed. This data will be accompanied by written feedback detailing each child’s achievements and areas of improvement.

We are confident this provides families with a more detailed, accurate and timely understanding of their child's progress; this should lead to more authentic conversations about the students' learning at home. It will also enable families to track each child’s academic progress over the year at any time via a secure web-based program.

You may see some variation between subject assessment schedules - in some classes students complete a high volume of smaller assessment tasks, while other subjects have a small number of ‘larger’ assessment tasks.

Reporting Student Achievement

At Preshil we inform families of student progress in the following ways:

  • Years 7-12 Information Evenings
  • Communication of class-specific information such as Google Classroom, Weebly, Wikis
  • Teacher emails, phone calls and meetings
  • Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Individual Educational Plan for students requiring learning support.
