Library

Welcome back!

Mrs Smith has returned from her trip to Western Australia looking relaxed and reporting some great elements of her break; there is plenty of work waiting for her – expect to see a plethora of new resources being displayed in both library branches very soon!

Thank you

Mrs Kelvy was able to come in for several hours in each of the weeks that Mrs Smith was away, which enabled us to proceed with tidying up our new Senior School space, and to assist in some of the Junior School borrowing. Thank you, Mrs Kelvy.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge:

Parents of children in Prep to Year 4 should have received their child’s/children’s login details. We are currently finalising enrolments for Year 5 and 6. From Year 7 to Year 10 we will add any student who requests us to sign them up, so far there is one dedicated reader who has asked. A parental authorisation is required for successful challengers who wish to see their name published on the website’s Honour Roll. Once your child has finished reading the required number we need you to send us a note saying that they have read the books listed and advising whether the child’s name can be published. Further information is available from the website

What is a Library in the C21st?

International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions is currently considering the various directions into which libraries may develop in the future. They are using the discussions to consider what the global vision may be for these institutions beyond what is currently offered.

The Global Vision discussion highlights the following aspects of relevance to school libraries:

*         Dedicated to providing equal and free access to information and knowledge

*         Deeply committed to core roles in supporting literacy, learning and reading

*         Focused on our communities

*         Embracing digital innovation

*         Eager to work more collaboratively and develop strong partnerships

*         Proud to be guardians of the memory of the world

*         Attracting young professionals deeply committed and eager to lead

For each Global Vision highlight there are also ten opportunities for action. And this is where the creative work begins! You may be interested to watch their short film about what opportunities we should be taking on board: “Our Vision, Our Future” is easy to watch and is a short clip.

We would be very interested to hear your views in relation to what we offer your children, our teachers and our wider community. If you are willing to be involved, can you please complete the form connected to this link.

There are a small number of questions and none are compulsory. You may choose to remain anonymous!

 Primary Student and Family Book Bags

Our Confident Futures Book Bags have been taken up by 6 families to date and the students have responded with great excitement. Please email me if you would like your children to have access to a big bag of books! msimkin@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au

Books are lent to the older Junior School child for the family and some titles are included because Mum and Dad may find them interesting to read to the children or read in front of the children.
