Mary – a strong female role model
With the celebration of Marian House Mass at Cranbourne (Clyde North postponed) we have heard a lot about Mary this week - and so we should! The story of Mary is spoken readily and frequently at St. Peter’s College. Mary portrayed the values of holiness, piety and humbleness. And as a teacher, Mary instructed women on the importance of trust and perseverance. I think this last point is her most valuable strength, her ability to persevere. For our students, this part of the Mary story is very relevant as I write, with the seniors just about to complete exams. Some advice to our students, maybe say a few Hail Mary’s before entering each exam!
Mary went through many trials in her life, but she never lost sight of her moral purpose and used her strong will to overcome obstacles and setbacks. A great role model for young people.
Refugee Week
From June 17 is Refugee Week. This week encourages Australians to celebrate the best aspects of our nation’s welcome of refugees and acknowledge the unjust treatment of asylum seekers and refugees and commit to working together to ensure that we do better. In doing this, we celebrate the positive contributions to Australian society made over the past 70 years by the 800,000 Australians who once were refugees. At St Peter’s College we will be acknowledging the week with different activities and events.
Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
We’ll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who’ve come across the seas,
We’ve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.
