Cranbourne Campus

Brendon Quintal, College Captain Cranbourne Campus

When did you start your studies at St. Peter’s College?

I started my studies at St. Peter’s College in 2015. I was really nervous when I first started, but excited at the same time, it was a very new emotion that I still don’t quite know how to describe it.

Tell us about your family?

I come from a small family, there’s only four of us, my Mum and Dad (Angeline and Alister) and my older brother Aaron, who is currently studying nursing at ACU (Australian Catholic University).

Tell us about your other interests?

My hobbies are playing instruments, I currently play the guitar, ukulele and piano, and would like to learn some more instruments as the year progresses, I intend on learning how to play the bass guitar sometime this year. I’m also interested in physiotherapy and to pursue this I volunteer at my local football club and work with a qualified physiotherapist to learn more skills.

Year 12 Studies:

I am currently studying Further Maths, Chemistry, Biology, English and Religion & Society. The most challenging have been English and Chemistry by far, however this year they are my main focus and I intend on pushing myself harder in order to achieve well in those two subjects.

Have you already completed any of your VCE Studies prior to this year?

I haven’t completed any VCE studies prior to this year however in Year 10 I completed a VET course and now hold a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance as well as a Level 1 Sports Trainer qualification.

2020 College Annual Theme

For I am gentle and humble in heart

What does this mean to you?

This is taken from Matthew 11:29, the context behind it is that Jesus is calling us to come to him and he will give us rest, meaning that if we follow him he will guide us and help us live a fulfilling life, in that he says “Take my yolk upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” To me it means that I have to trust in God, for he is gentle and humble in heart, he will make my burdens lighter, he will help me no matter what, and all I have to do is have faith in him.

How will you live this statement throughout the year in your role?

I believe that I can live this statement by showing patience, being kind to others, open to their ideas and doing the best I can to integrate them into our school life.

What are your goals for 2020?

To push myself further out of my comfort zone as much as I can, and to give everything I do my all. I’d love to leave a positive impact on as many people I can.

For yourself in your Captains role?

As College Captain I’d like to leave an impact on the school even after I leave, I want to help build a greater sense of community among the student body and help bring about new clubs or activities for students to participate in, in the College.

For yourself as a Year 12 student?

As a year 12 student I’d like to work on my time management skills, as Year 12 is quite demanding in terms of study time I’d like to learn how to manage this while still having time for some work and a social life, as well as time for my hobbies such as my instruments.

Personally?

My personal goals for 2020 are to achieve well academically, I’m aiming to get into my first preference at Monash University, and in order to achieve this I’m dedicating more time into my studies as well working on my time management and organisation.

What would you like your legacy be for St. Peter’s College?

I want my legacy to be that I was someone who helped, who participated and who encouraged others to “Be not afraid” to express themselves, their ideas, instead of being shy and nervous, for I know that our students have great ideas and great potential, however they may be too nervous to show it.

What are you immediate life ambitions and aspirations once you complete your studies at St. Peter’s College?

I would like to either work for a year or two before commencing my studies at University, or I may just dive right into them, for with my current qualification I can work as an assistant for a Dietitian, my ultimate goal is to become one, and I can do that through studies at university. However I’m also looking at Osteopathy due to my work with physiotherapy and I feel that I want to study that too. I volunteered at a CYC (Christian Youth Camp) in the city just a month ago, and I’m very keen on volunteering again throughout this year and definitely for the years to come.

What are your long term life ambitions and aspirations?

Ultimately I know I want to be in the health sector, being able to help people in the physical aspects of health such as diet or the muscular system of the body. I hope to at least have bought my first house before the age of 30 and that I will continue my studies and eventually obtain a PhD, either in Dietetics or Osteopathy. Maybe even both.

In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students to convey your pride in your College?

When I first came to St. Peter’s College I was a shy nervous student who liked to stay within the confines of my comfort zone, however recently I’ve jumped out of it completely immersing myself in new situations that have helped me learn and grow as a person thanks to the opportunities provided to me by the college, and I wish I had done it sooner.

When did you start your studies at St. Peter’s College?

I started my studies at St Peter’s College in 2015, at the beginning of Year 7. I was so excited to have a fresh start, not knowing anybody here. I loved this school from the minute I got through the gates and I could tell I was in good hands.

Tell us about your family?

I live with my mother and sister. I visit my dad every second weekend in South Yarra, where he lives. My mum, sister and I have a strong bond, we are all very close to each other and I wouldn’t have it any other way. They’re my best friends!

Tell us about your other interests?

I love everything to do with art, it’s so relaxing but so thrilling at the same time. I absolutely love watching movies, especially Disney, Marvel and horror movies.

Year 12 Studies:

This year, I’m doing English, Maths, Religion, Business Management, Studio Arts and Viscom (Visual Communication and Design). I chose to do a wide range of studies to keep my options open when I go to university, as I’m not entirely sure what career path I want to go down yet. I enjoy all of my classes so far. They’re filled with good students who help each other bounce ideas off one another and all of my teachers are great. I especially enjoy Studio Arts and Viscom because it allows me to unwind a bit as well get my creative juices flowing.

Have you already completed any of your VCE Studies prior to this year?

I have not completed any VCE studies prior to this year, but I wish I did so I could have got a taste of what Year 12 was going to be like beforehand.

2020 College Annual Theme

For I am gentle and humble in heart

What does this mean to you?

To me, this quote means to think of yourself as equal to everyone else and practice humility. In order to do this, as Mr Hansen once said, “Do not think less of yourself, but think of yourself less”.

How will you live this statement throughout the year in your role?

I think that especially in my role this year, it is important to keep this quote in mind to stay true to my servant leadership and to act as a leader from the back of the line, not at the front. Encouragement is such a big thing in getting people to step out of their comfort zones and to achieve certain goals that they might be unsure about.

What are your goals for 2020?

This year, I am aiming to make the most of it. To take every opportunity and really make this year count.

For yourself in your Captains role?

In terms of my leadership role, I am aiming to allow the students to feel more connected within the school community as well as make the changes we all wish to see, to the best of my ability.

For yourself as a Year 12 student?

As a Year 12 student, I am aiming to stay as organised as possible this year and to ensure my school life remains as one of my top priorities. I would like to do well in all my subjects, even in the ones I’m not so fond of. A main goal I have is to ensure my Year 12 cohort celebrates the time they shared collectively as well as supporting each other to succeed to their full potential.

Personally?

Personally, I want to be happy. I want to finish this year knowing that I worked hard and showed pride in every aspect in my life, whether that be school, leadership commitments, family, work or my hobbies.

What would you like your legacy to be for St. Peter’s College?

For St. Peter’s College to learn something from me this year. I want to set an example and hope that others, step up and achieve any goals they might have, no matter how scared they may be.

What are your immediate life ambitions and aspirations once you complete your studies at St. Peter’s College?

After school, I want to go to university. However, as I said previously, I’m not entirely sure what career path I want to go down, but I’m in no rush to decide because it changes every day. I would love to start my adventures of travelling around the world and to hopefully do some volunteer work in different countries as well as here in Australia.

What are your long-term life ambitions and aspirations?

In the future, I hope to succeed enough in life that I can give back to my mum for all of the amazing things she has done for me. There is no way to ever fully repay her for endless amount of love and support she has given me but taking her on a well-deserved holiday is a good start.

I love helping people. It is a natural instinct of mine and I wish to continue helping people throughout my life, especially long term.

In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students to convey your pride in your College?

St. Peter’s College is a place where you can express yourself freely, ‘Be Not Afraid’ and grow to the best of your ability to succeed.
