Ella Thompson - Music Lessons
Musician, Composer, Performing Artist – 2008- Current
Over the last 10 years I have performed, composed and recorded with many artists
including Mark Ronson, Betty Harris and Renee Geyer, in addition to working steadily on
my own projects such as GL, Dorsal Fins, The Bamboos and my solo work. I have toured
extensively both nationally and internationally, performing at festivals such as Meredith,
Laneway, Melbourne Festival and Splendour In The Grass.
In 2017, I was commissioned to create a new work by the Melbourne Recital Centre for
Melbourne Festival. This resulted in ‘Like Running Water’, featuring female artists
collaborating on a wholly new work across Visual Art and Music.
Over the last few years I have been invited to speak on panels at LISTEN, Music Victoria,
BigSound and Face The Music conferences. These experiences are another way we can
have valuable discussions about the industry and how to make positive moves forward.
Founder – Pool Record Label and Art Publication - Current
POOL is a publication centred on multidisciplinary practices. Built on the pillars of
feminism and equality, Pool is an artist-run collective generating space for innovative new
works to bloom and gather. In this way it is a social network tied together not through a
similarity in practice, but by a belief in the necessity to collectively foster difference.
Through our online presence Pool’s imprint seeks to generate exposure for artists by
publishing interviews, distributing objects and artworks through an online store, nurturing
unlikely collaborations and hosting a place to read poetry, have discussions, listen to new
mixes and promote events.
