JAPAN TRIP UPDATE

September 2 – 12, 2019

Only 6 more sleeps until our intrepid adventurers head off to experience some of the fascinating sights and cultural experiences Japan has to offer. We wish them all the best, hope they have a fabulous time and return with many stories to share.

Speaking more than one language is a valuable asset for all students in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world. Our students will have a real world experience to support, apply, enhance and expand their language and intercultural learning.

The objectives of our trip is for students and staff to:

  • Build on their language and cultural awareness of Japan, experiencing a real world situation
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and respect for cultural diversity within the community
  • Reflect on how intercultural experiences influence attitudes, values and beliefs
  • Recognise the importance of acceptance and appreciation of cultural diversity for a cohesive community
  • Practise the school values and increase their understanding of the values
  • Grow in maturity and confidence, as well as building independence and team work skills

We’re sure that our students will make the most of all opportunities and be wonderful ambassadors for our school, community and country!

We’d love to invite our whole school community along on our adventures through following our trip blog:

Students and staff will be making daily updates and reflecting on their learning and experiences.

Mrs Karly Cooper will be replacing Narelle Sullivan in Japanese classes at Buninyong while she is away.

COSTUME REPAIRS

After our recent Japanese Day, we noticed that we have several costumes from our school dress up box with stitching coming undone, etc. and they are in need of minor repairs. If you are handy with a needle and thread or sewing machine and are interested in helping out, please let Narelle know sullivan.narelle.l@edumail.vic.gov.au

Japanese Fact

We will be lucky enough to walk on and experience a “nightingale” (squeaking) floor at Nijo Castle in Kyoto. They are so named as the floorboards “chirp” when stepped on, and were an early type of alarm system!
