Year 12
Gap Year and Full Time Employment after Year 12
Recently over ten local employers have contacted the College regarding job opportunities. The gap year jobs are being emailed to students who have expressed interest and others are mentioned in the Year 12 Google Classroom and some are posted on the McCarthy Careers Facebook page.
Scholarships, course updates and deadlines are listed in Careers Newsletters that are posted each week on the Careers@McCarthy website on the Newsletters page accessible to both parents and students.
UAC deadlines for Year 12 wanting to apply to study at University
The deadline of 30 September for on time UAC applications with the lower cost of $70 is approaching and students will be receiving early round offers in October and November so checking both school and personal emails and acting by deadlines is becoming increasingly important.
Year 10
Several staff are working with students who are investigating employment options at the end of Year 10 and I congratulate several students who have work experience this week and in Term 4. Work experience at the moment is subject to various COVID 19 restrictions and details can be found on the Work Experience page of the Careers@McCarthy website.
HSC & Beyond - The Career Expo
The Career Expo is all set to kick off from the 28 - 30 September - a free virtual event that all Careers Advisers and their Year 10, 11 and 12 students (and their parents!) do not want to miss Learn More.
Held directly before final university preferences close and final exams begin, the event is packed with everything they need to know and do right now - all in one place.
Some changes have been made since their last event...
- A new look and feel for an engaging, fun and personal experience;
- Free one-on-one sessions with an on-site Careers Adviser;
- Improved Live Chat with experts from all major universities, TAFE and educational providers across NSW, VIC and QLD;
- Exclusive tools and resources including:
- Tertiary & VET Pathway Tool which not only helps students predict their score and identify their future study pathways, but also connects them to people at the event who can help;
- Jobs Board, helping students align their skills and interests to a broad range of career options and give a view on what’s out there in the market.
This virtual event is open 24/7 across all 3 days, with all the comprehensive career and academic resources and support you’d expect from The Career Expo. Plus a diverse program of live and on-demand talks from 12:00pm - 8:00pm on topics that matter to students and their parents at this critical point in the year such as helpful step by step guides from UAC and free subject specific webinars by expert HSC markers to brush up their knowledge before sitting the final exams.
