Year 12 Students

Some words of wisdom to our Year 12 students

James Lynch is a consultant who works with Secondary and Tertiary students as an Interview Skills Coach, also providing assistance with Resume Writing. He has called the Year 12 Class of 2020 ‘Survivors’ and had this to say as we commence Term 4.

“Over and above my standard messages to students, this year what I have tried to instil in the Year 12 students, is that they are unique. They are COVID-19 - 2020 Survivors. The upside is that they have learnt many skills such as: being Flexible – Adaptable – Resourceful – Self Disciplined – Innovative.  They show Perseverance and Positivity and they have learnt to Pivot.

These are all the qualities interviewers look for when they make selection decisions, and never more so than now, because “The future ain’t what it used to be!” (Yogi Berra). If you can’t sell yourself then who else can? “Life is not what happens to you. It’s how you react that matters.”

It is our hope that our Year 12 students have learned / developed these skills during this very difficult year and they will stand them in good stead for the future.

Timely VTAC applications closed on 30 September. All Aitken students who, at this time, wish to apply for a course(s) through VTAC are ‘in the system’ as a timely applicant. Preferences can be changed as often as wanted / needed for no extra fee. The $41 VTAC application fee covers the initial application and any changes of preference as well as a printed ATAR statement. Students who have not yet paid their $41 fee are reminded that it needs to be paid before results are released for their preferences to be considered.

A reminder also, that Special Entry and Access Scheme (SEAS) applications, including any necessary Supporting Statements and other documentation, must be submitted to VTAC by 5pm on Friday 9 October. No late applications can / will be accepted.

VU Guaranteed (VUG) applications are still open and close on Friday 9 October.

Could Year 12 students who are yet to return their ‘Permission to Collect Personal Information Form’, please do so as soon as possible? A photo or scan of the form is absolutely fine. Please send to Mrs Borg or Ms Gibbs. If you have misplaced your form please contact us and we will be very happy to email you another.
