Fern Student Leaders talk about 2020

Melika

2020 has been a challenging year not only for the Year 12s but for the juniors as well. This year has helped build friendships and has helped individuals identify their own strengths and weaknesses. Although this year has been hard the Fern community has been stronger than ever and we have maintained our House spirit through everything this challenging year has thrown at us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff members of Fern House on behalf of all students.

2020 has been a challenging year not only for us students but all the staff, parents and everyone. Many of us have struggled or had difficult times with both school and home life but also, we all have learnt many new things and identified our strengths and weaknesses. Although this year has been hard, we all have made it this far together and I would like to say thank you to all the staff and teachers for working so hard throughout the remote learning to help us with our education and help us all get through this. I would also like to say well done to all the students for keeping up with everything and putting effort while remote learning because it wasn’t easy but we did it.

There is a saying that “our most significant opportunity will be found in the times of greatest challenges” and there certainly isn’t a greater challenge for a student than what we faced this year! Now that this challenge is nearly over and we are back at school with our friends, it’s time for all of us to celebrate great achievements, knowing that we have triumph over what other generations of students wouldn’t even dream of. Now is the time for reflecting on the opportunity that this dark time has given us, what we have learnt about ourselves, the value of our friends, teachers, family members that helped us through this time… and utilise it to make us better individuals, friends and students. Remember, we are all special and we should all be proud of it.

2020 hasn’t been the best but this term has been great seeing people face to face especially friends. My experience coming back to school was weird, I didn’t know if I should hug my friends a or give them a fist bump. Remaining 1.5 metres away from people is very frustrating but whatever makes the school safe is most important. Everyone can agree that this year hasn’t been the year for us but surely we can finish this year with a bang. On behalf of Fern community we thank the teachers, students and parents for being great the past few months.

Our Simple Message

The Fern House Leadership Team’s message is quite simple this term: Thank You. We have been humbled by the drive, determination, and sheer grit of all of you during remote learning.  We are very happy to see everyone again and know that, working together, we will finish off the year engaged, and positive about our learning.
