Callistemon House
It has been absolutely wonderful to have all our students return to school this week. We now have all our Callistemon students’ onsite and the House has been abuzz with excited voices and lots of movement and energy.
Together we have all reflected on the remote learning experience, finding the positives and those areas where we have learnt and grown new things about ourselves. We have also shared and discussed stories about taking those learnings into this term and next year.
Staff and students in Callistemon share some insights and positive messages:
Callistemon House returned to school with a pep in their step! I enjoyed seeing everyone's smiling faces and loved hearing how much everyone, staff and students, were glad to be back. Whilst I do miss making a coffee anytime of the day, I had truly missed the busy, vibrant atmosphere of teaching on site. I could not be prouder and more grateful to be part of an excellent teaching team who support each other and have outstanding students who make our days brighter (even though I have lost count how many times I've asked students not to enter through the exit doors). I feel really excited as we welcome back more students and start to create our new norm with new perspectives. Miss Brander
To be honest on the first day back, it was like the first day of school again, nerve-racking. Being in the staffroom and classroom, it was as if we had never left. Everyone was welcoming and happy to be back. Mr Giang
Welcome back to Term 4 in a difficult year. We want to say thank you for your support that made us return to school. We have achieved so much during remote learning but now it's time to get back in action. Until the summer holidays, we want to stay on track of our studies so we can finish the year strong. Lily & Ethan T (Callistemon 7 & 8 SRC)
Hopping back into my normal routine was slightly difficult but my motivation and excitement pushed me right back on track. It certainly has been a tough and stressful journey for all whilst adapting to remote learning, but now that’s all over, I am extremely happy to be back at school and grateful for the efforts the teachers have made. Jasleen K (Year 10 SRC)
We have said farewell to our Callistemon Padlet, as well as to our Year 12 students. Our Callistemon Year 12 students are an amazing group of young people. Each has given their absolute best this year and shown tremendous resilience, adaptiveness and compassion for themselves and each other. It has been the most difficult of years for each of them, but they are all successful, courageous and more confident because of the experience.
A few messages from our Year 12 Callistemon Leaders
I know this year has been tough, but everyone has got through this situation together. Callistemon House has been supporting all students throughout the year and I cannot be more thankful for the staff and students. Although most of the year has been online learning, I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Callistemon as House Captain and wish the best for everyone. Pranav K (Year 12 Callistemon House Captain)
The physical interactions I had with such a positive cohort was something I missed during the course of remote learning. More than ever, I appreciate the sense of community within Callistemon House, from staff and students who have supported me in my education and social welfare. Furthermore, I am grateful for the opportunities and leadership roles that allowed me to give back to this wonderful community. Dylan T (Year 12 SRC)
This year was challenging to say the least, but it has allowed us to learn more about ourselves, our capabilities, and our perseverance. It is bittersweet to say goodbye to 13 years of schooling, but it is not the end. As we embark on the next chapter in our lives, I know Callistemon will continue to be a house with great spirit and excellence. Aparna S (Year 12 Callistemon House Captain)
We are excited to see what we will achieve for the rest of Term 4.
