During the opening of sports day, we had a welcome to country delivered by Kaurna Elder Elaine Magias. Elaine began by asking staff to pick a gum leaf from the branch she had and then collected them in her woven basket at the end of her speech. This was a way of bringing everyone together and starting the day with good energy. A big thank you to Elaine for starting our day with a special ceremony.

Then Nunga group presented the school with a piece of artwork that they had been working on. The painting shows the four sports teams, represented by Australian animals. Nunga group chose the animals based on the meaning of each word:

Padminthi (Jump) - Kangaroo
Wirrkuta (Quick) - Emu
Yakanthi (Run) - Goanna
Mukanthi (Play) - Possum
