Principal's Report

Moments that are Grace

It’s the little and the simple

that make our days divine,

the gifts we share with each other

the ones we cannot buy

the word that lifts our burden

the silence that understands

the friend who holds us fragile

the child who calls our name

the smile that breaks a surprise

a story to be shared

the friend who has come a distance

our loving of ourselves

the gratitude that seeks us out

the letter that we’ve sent

the call that says you matter to me

the visit that we make

the mug of chocolate with marshmallows

the vanilla slice home made

the heart that hears our inner cries

the embrace that shares our pain.

In the midst of the angst caused by the terrible atrocity in New Zealand, the suffering of abuse victims and other such sufferings in our troubled world, perhaps sharing a few moments of grace in the lead up to Easter could be of immense benefit.

Thank you.

It is widely understood how much good teaching is built around relationships.

The value of making the time to develop relationships with students cannot be underestimated, especially with those students who may be a little less focussed in our lessons than we would like them to be.

Term 1 thus far has certainly provided many opportunities for all of us to develop these relationships. Year 7 Camp, Year 12 Retreat, House Swimming Sports, Social Justice Camp, and this week’s Foundation Day celebrations are all examples of such opportunities.

The positive effects of such relationship building are immense in the classroom and I would like to thank each and every member of our College community who has contributed to making these opportunities run so successfully this Term.

Recently we had the opportunity for parents/guardians, students and teachers to reflect on the progress of the academic year at the Learning Mentor interviews. As we approach the end of Term 1 I would encourage all students to make the most of the advice given in those interviews in order to make sure that school is as productive as possible.

With best wishes for the remainder of Term 1.

God bless
