Creative Challenge

It’s back!

This term for our first creative challenge I would like you to take an everyday item and use it as part of a drawing.

You just need a small item and think about what it could also be, then draw your picture around it. Below is an example that I have done and a couple of examples.

When you have finished just take a photo and send it to me at lhyde@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au or upload it to the creative challenge slides found in the Junior and Senior Art classrooms.

I look forward to seeing the amazing creative drawings.

Healthy Eating in LS3!

This week the Seniors in LS3 have been looking at healthy eating!

We analysed the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and reflected upon their recommendations.  We practised making delicious food and reflected on our own healthy eating choices by recording what we ate for the week in a food journal. Here are some of our creations.

Try our Recipes!

Carlos’ Coleslaw

6 tbsp plain yogurt

½ tsp Dijon mustard

 2 tbsp mayonnaise

1⁄2 white cabbage

carrots

1⁄2 onion

Mix the yogurt, mustard and mayonnaise together in a bowl. Then, use a greater attachment on a food processor, or a box grater, to grate the cabbage and carrots. Either grate the onion or chop as finely as you can. Tip all of the vegetables into the bowl and stir through the dressing.

Levina’s Creamy Chicken Spinach Pasta

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces uncooked pasta
  • 2 chicken breasts cut into small bite-size pieces
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Flour, for dredging
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/3 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 dash Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup heavy/whipping cream
  • 5 ounces fresh baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Boil a large, salted pot of water for the pasta.
  2. Cut up the chicken and season it with salt & pepper. Coat the pieces with flour.
  3. Add the butter and oil to a skillet over medium-high heat. Once the pan's hot, add the chicken and cook it until it's no longer pink on the outside. Take the chicken out of the pan and set it aside.
  4. Take the pan off the heat and add the garlic, chicken broth, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and Italian seasoning. Return the pan to the heat and let it bubble for a minute or so. Scrape up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan.
  5. Add the chicken, cream, and spinach to the pan. Let it cook for around 5 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. You may want to reduce the heat if it's bubbling a lot or if the sauce is thickening too fast.
  6. Drain the pasta and toss with the sauce. Stir in the parmesan. Season with more salt & pepper if needed.

Recipe Notes

  • I've made this without the parmesan cheese before, and it will still taste good if you want to leave it out for whatever reason.

PE NEWS

FRIDAY SENIOR SPORT

Once again a big thank you to all the Senior students who sent through photos of their sport session last week.

Students had a choice of a Kidz Bop, yoga, soccer clinic or netball clinic.  What an active group of students even though it was freezing Friday!!

We still had students brave the weather to keep physically fit!!

Well done Seniors!! We would love to see some photos of the Junior sports sessions.

Please send these to Giuliana at gfaiola@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

School Sport Victoria have just posted a Virtual Track and Field to encourage students to become active. The link for these activities is: https://ssv.vic.edu.au/Pages/SSVVirtualTrackandField.aspx?_sm_au_=iVVtvsnt3M26fQ372QFQvK0q44FRJ

Parents please ensure you are aware and agree with any challenge your child participates in and keep to the Stage 4 restrictions.

If students participate in the virtual track and field, we would love it if you could send photos or videos to gfaiola@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au to include in our newsletter.

Stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone when restrictions are lifted.

ITALIAN CHALLENGE – remote learning

A reminder to all our senior students of the GIOCA JOUER challenge. Keep sending in your videos of you and/or your family members performing this great bilingual action song by Claudio Cecchetto.

All the details, music, lyrics and example video is found on the Senior Italian Class Page as separate document to your weekly lessons.

JUNIOR ITALIAN

As part of the ELLA (Early Learning Languages Program Australia) in which we are currently a trial school, the Junior children have been learning the shapes in Italian. They busily found things around home and school this week of shapes they had been learning about.
