Alumni Spotlight - Selina Morley

Selina Morley

Selina graduated from JMSS in 2015. Here Selina discusses what she has been up to and her interest in Women's AFL.

What have you been doing since you left JMSS?

Once I left JMSS I went straight into starting a bachelor of biomedical science. Whilst studying, I found I had a real niche for microbiology. In 3rd year I was offered a 6 month full-time internship at my local council in the Health department. Although not exactly biomedical science related, microbiology was involved and I completed an extensive food sampling project. I found I enjoyed my internship and also put my microbiology and environmental health knowledge to the test. This experience provided me with relevant skills to pursue a job in a similar role at a contracting company and am situated in the health department at another local council as an inspiring Environmental Health techincal officer. I have almost been working full-time for a year and am currently studying a post graduate in environmental health to become a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer or as many know, a health inspector. Furthermore I also one of the co-ordinators the food sampling program for 10 council sites. Currently I am juggling full-time work and uni, womens football and gym.

During your time as a student at JMSS, what did you like most?

That JMSS brings like minded people together, providing a school environment that you want to be apart of.

Was there anyone who inspired you?

As I am pursuing a career in environmental health, I would definitely say my environmental health teacher at the time, Ms Reifschneider

What's your favourite memory of JMSS?

Going on Singapore exchange

What advice would you give to a current JMSS student?

The pressure you may be feeling now for VCE and your exam outcomes, do not define you.

What do you do in your spare time?

I play local womens AFL

What's next for you?

To be a qualified Environmental Health Officer, who knows where I'll take my passion for microbiology and environmental health.

Tell us a bit about your Football career?

I have played in several divisions in South East Victoria including Division one. Last year I kicked 7 goals and we made the grand final (we lost ☹)

I have done preseason VFL training and attended women’s AFL academy. I have also previously taken captaincy roles and have  taught auskick. I generally play midfield as a ruck rover or a forward position.
