Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

We are now at the end of Week 7 and therefore there are three more weeks before the end of Term 3.  On reflection, this has been a very challenging term.  However, we have learned new things about ourselves, and learned that we can do many new things against the odds (either individually or collectively as a community).

There are enormous changes to our daily lives.  The disruptions that come with the pandemic is something none of us has experienced before.

These are uncertain times.  Now is the time more than ever, for us to pull together as a community in looking after each other.

In years to come, we will think about the year of 2020 and how we overcame the challenges.  We will succeed in overcoming this coronavirus situation and the success will belong to everyone.

We will come out of this pandemic on the other side – a lot stronger and better equipped to handle situations like what we are facing now.

There are also some changes at school. Right now, it is hard to know how long these new changes will stay in place, or if more will be needed as the year goes on.

All these changes and uncertainties might make you feel confused, angry or overwhelmed. Please do talk to your teachers, mentors / House Leader if you need support.  It is important for you to seek help.

There are lots of things you can do to look after your health and wellbeing.

You could:

  • Take a break from the news and social media
  • Spend time with family and friends - connecting with others is very important
  • Do some exercises
  • Try to eat healthily and keep unhealthy snack foods as treats.
  • Get creative, pursue a hobby with some art / technology / music.
  • Try mindfulness / meditation.
  • Participate in the many Student Parliament activities, clubs and competitions.

Many students and staff have initiated online clubs and House competitions. Please participate and enjoy these club activities and House competitions.  Inspite of Stage 4 restrictions, our JMSS culture, spirit and traditions are not submerged.

We want to hear our student 'voice' and feedback about their learning and schooling at JMSS.  Every year our school has developed strategies for school improvements based on student feedback through the survey.  Please be assured that all student responses to the survey are completely confidential.

The survey will be conducted on Monday 31st August at Mentor Session.  Students have been provided with their individual Username and Password for this survey.

Students should not share their personal Username and Password with others.  The link to Survey will also be provided.

Take care of yourself and stay well.

Best regards,
