Resource Centre

Week 10

The Resource Centre is separate from the classrooms in a physical sense and in its role of custodian for all the books and other resources it keeps. However, its special function, providing students and teachers with access to what we house here and beyond, works best in a collaborative and integrative manner. Both Mrs Fergusson and I find this exciting and fulfilling in a variety of ways.

We love to celebrate children’s writing by having prominent display stands for books that classes produce. It is a way of publishing the children’s creations … the young authors love to stand around and share what they and others have written and drawn.

Another way to be interactive is for someone from the Resource Centre to go into a classroom. I’ve done some of that this term to share my passion for soil science. With live worms, enlarged photos from the microscope and books, I’ve endeavoured to show how an interest can be expanded with research and reading. I’d like to think that students will become involved in following threads of their own interests and hobbies and enjoy exploring books that relate to them, whether fiction or non-fiction. Or writing their own! Now there’s a challenge for the holidays!

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE

It’s the end of term 2 and we are just over the half way mark for our WHOLE SCHOOL PRC CHALLENGE. 86 students have now handed in their completed forms. Just a reminder that our goal is to exceed our current 2018 record of 187 students completing the challenge.

Well done to those who have handed in their forms since the last newsletter:

Ruby (Secondary); Isla, Kiara & Emily (Primary).

*With 9 weeks to go there is still time for everyone to finish their 12 books and hand in their forms by the end of Week 7.……

So enjoy your holiday & KEEP READING
