Covid-19 Update
Wednesday 8/07/2020
How quickly things can change in 24 hours. We will be commencing the new term as a Pupil Free Week. This is not something we wanted nor expected when we finished Term Two, but we are back to where we were in term two remote learning - unconfirmed at this stage.
If you have made alternative arrangements for your child/ren to be cared for on the Monday we would really appreciate it if you didn't change these arrangements. Currently the teachers can not access the school due to the school requiring a deep clean, which will be completed on Friday. Therefore without this access the teachers only have the Monday to prepare for the first week and ready themselves for remote learning. So your co-operation would be greatly appreciated.
As we are now in Stage three lock down we need to respond to those parents and carers who are deemed 'ESSENTIAL WORKERS'. We will as we did last term provide Out of Hours Care for those workers only, and only if required. This will include before school care and also after school care.
If parents need to their child/ren supervised due to being an essential worker then send an email to the school's email address providing the following information:
We need this information by Friday 10/07/2020. Please do not expect care will be provided with out first notifying the school of your need.
Reminder, if we suspect your child is unwell we will refuse to accept your at school and before and after care, our will be final.
The directive from DET is that schools will provide a program for children who must attend, but this program will not take the form of a conventional 9.00 - 3.30 learning program. The program will be more like a holiday type program where teachers and staff supervise students. There will be no remote learning happening for any student during this week. I envisage in between supervising students at school teachers will be preparing for remote learning.
I will provide more information when DET provides it to me. Again you may hear things from friends or relatives about what or how other schools are dealing with term three. While the opinions of others maybe well intended it is unhelpful to assume these opinions will be of benefit to Newlands. So for the record, a second time round, I will follow same protocols as I did in term two, which is to:
Thank you for your further support, and as we know Newlands community is a great community. We will get through this ......... again! Lets hope the rest of metropolitan Melbourne has learnt and will do it better this time.

Students will not be in attendance for the first week of term. However the starting and finishing times will be reviewed as we move further into term three.
We will be reviewing this arrangement, and advising the community when DET provides schools with greater clarity around parent/teacher interviews.
We have cancelled Day 1 Monday 13/07/2020 of the two pupil free days in response to the latest changes regarding schools from Premier Andrews. The second day will be Wednesday, 16/09/2020, which will be in the last week of term three still stands unless otherwise advised by DET.
School photos for Friday 17th of July have been cancelled. We will advise the community when we will re-schedule Photo Day .
