Student Leadership 2021

August 17 saw a launch to the year 11 Leadership Program like no other. Pastoral care leader Ms Cathy Michael and the various House leaders led our aspiring year 11 student leaders through a series of inspirational workshops designed to get them thinking about the role they may play in leading the student body for the academic year of 2021. The Student leadership Executive at St. Peter’s College is made up of eight formal positions; two College captains, a Liturgy Captain, Social Justice captain, an Environment captain, an Arts captain and two Sport captains however it has become abundantly clear through the nomination process and through conversations, that we have a wonderful bunch of leaders at year 11, each of whom could step up in their own right into formal leadership and all of whom will come together with their peers to make a significant difference in 2021. Over the coming days the election process involving student and staff vote, short listing, and interviews is due to take place. I commend all 19 students who put themselves forward as candidates for leadership in 2021 - whether you received a formal position or not, each of you can be supremely proud of how you presented and what you mean to our community.

During the nomination process, candidates were asked what they most enjoyed about St. Peter's College the following responses were shared.

"Being able to have younger year levels look out to me when they need help and if they have a question and me being able to help them out. Like a new Year 7 doesn't know where one of their classes are and me showing them which it is.

Turning up to school every day, and seeing everyone in their friend groups having a laugh and smiling, because when other smiles it makes me smile, and I hope I'm able to do that for others as well.

What I love most about learning at St. Peter’s College is the sense of community and support that is constantly present. I know that through everything I do whether it be academic, sport or pastoral, that I have my teachers, friends and cohort supporting me.

St. Peter's College simply has a lot to offer. Everyday there are new windows of opportunities for students to open, in which we can improve our strengths, try new things and come out of our comfort zone. The immense amount of support also shares the number one spot in this category.

I love being a student in St. Peter's College as it provides me with opportunities to help others and to be a leader in a christian community.

I love how creative the events and activities are. How they bring the students together, because of how fun and accomplished it can feel afterwards. I've noticed over the years when we have house competitions, each house comes together as a whole to rival other houses, how when some students aren't competing they still cheer for their housemates hoping the best for them to accomplish their goal for the day. I think when we have fun days like this, it brings out the best in everyone and you can always see that they are smiling.

The Community we have as a school.

I love that our school gives every student an opportunity to thrive and work towards there goals and aspirations in any class, recess or carnival. Everyone gets an opportunity to try as well, helping people learn what they would like to do in there final years of schooling.

For me, the best part of being a St. Peter's College student would have to be all the opportunities that the school provides us with, to be able to further extend ourselves and push us to be the best version of ourselves.

I love the community St. Peter's College. I feel like our school has an amazing community that welcomes everyone, I came to St. Peter's College as the only student from my school and the school made me feel welcome and felt as if I was part of something. I've also been part of the schools social justice group since year 8 and its a place that has always welcomed me and a place that people cared about issues the same as I do.

One of the things I love most about St. Peter's College is that I’ve found through any type of leadership that the school is very willing to listen to the student voice. My experience from being in the SRC in the past has given me an insight into how our school works behind the scenes.

What I love the most about being a student at St. Peter’s College is how inclusive and supportive we are as a community.

I love that St. Peter's College put the students first, making sure that each and every student has the best possible opportunity to succeed throughout their journey at the college and after their journey at the college has ended.

School is not a journey that can be or should be attempted alone! Leaders and teachers who support me in the aid of achieving my goals, their persistent and tireless nature inspiring me in my approach to my studies and it is for these reasons that I will remain grateful to them as my journey continues. Never giving up on me, helping me at my moments of greatest need with words of wisdom and guidance has given me a path for my future that I am grateful for.

Being heard and not feeling judged.

As a student of St. Peter's college, I love how students and teachers have great relationships, and that teachers know us as our own person rather than just a number in their classroom. I love how we all share equal respect for each other, and everyone in the college community are so welcoming and kind.

As a student of St. Peter's college, i just cannot thank the college enough, for not only supporting my family in the school as well as myself, but for the positive engagement and encouragement we have all received for the past years. The care, commitment and kindness of everyone at the college were actually one of the reasons I am who I am today. I want to be a leader to give back to the community and pass forward what has been given to me. The knowledge and the experience. An opportunity to prove and show my true Potentials in everything I do. I want to spread more kindness, More positive energy as well as words of encouragement for students who think that they cannot reach their goals.

My favourite part of being a St. Peter's College student is the way everyone is both considered and included in all aspects of the high school experiences.

As a student of St. Peter's College the support and guidance you receive from not only your friends or fellow peers but from the teachers is amazing. You're able to gain support for your future and you're pushed to reach your goals."

It would certainly appear that we are in great hands with a group of students who have a strong appreciation for what the College is and can be.
