At the election polls

I have the privilege soon of interviewing potential student leaders for 2021. I especially get to be involved in the election process of two of our core leadership portfolios, which are a point of difference for St. Peter’s College, as a Catholic place of learning. The Social Justice and Liturgy Captains at both Cranbourne and Clyde North campuses. I have jotted down a few ‘non-negotiables’ that I will be looking for.

Social Justice Captain:

  • Someone who will encourage students to look for ways to serve others in our St. Peter’s College community.
  • Someone who will model and promote high standards of social justice and community involvement.
  • Someone who will work in collaboration with staff and students to create opportunities to engage in social justice activities.
  • Someone who will have a clear understanding of what is fund raising or social action in a Catholic school setting.
  • Someone who will have a solid understanding of Catholic Social Teachings.
  • Someone who will be a good promoter of social justice events.

Liturgy Captain:

  • Someone who will foster the faith dimension of our College.
  • Someone who will assist with key College celebrations, weekly Masses and other important liturgies.
  • Someone who will be a leader of students with regards to involving a greater number of students in College liturgical celebrations.
  • Someone who will help lead a nourishing prayer life with staff and students.
  • Someone who will be able to be creative and innovative with ways to further strengthen our partnership with St Agatha’s and St Thomas the Apostle parishes.

Augustine House Feast Day

This week we celebrated Augustine House feast day with a dual campus liturgy over Zoom for Augustine staff and students. Thank you to Augustine House Leaders; Ms. Caroline Angus (Clyde North), Mr. Gerard Brown (Cranbourne) and their many student leaders who played significant roles in the preparation and organisation.

I share with you a snippet of what one House Captain presented on who was St. Augustine.

"Saint Augustine was the Bishop of Hippo and Doctor of the Church. Accepted by most scholars to be the most important figure in the ancient Western Church, Saint Augustine was born in Tagaste, Numidia in North Africa. His mother was a Christian, but his father remained a Pagan until late in life. Augustine drifted through several philosophical systems before converting to Christianity at the age of thirty-one."

Upcoming Events

  • Our Term 3 charity is St Vincent de Paul. Keep an eye on various activities that will be organised by our Social Justice Captains to support Vinnies.
