ANZAC Day Liturgy
We assembled for our Anzac Liturgy on our first day back to term. We commemorated that immortal day when young men of Australia by their deeds and sacrifices, demonstrated to the world at Gallipoli, Australia was truly a Nation.
Legacy are sending 100 young Australians to France in July this year to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of Australian involvement on the Western Front. Zac Butcher is one of the lucky young Australians to have been selected for the trip. Zac talked to our College community about the significance of Anzac Day and his upcoming trip.
We have not forgotten and we are defined, at least in part, by the act of remembrance. It makes us who we are and reminds us, in the face of an unknown future, who we can be – courageous and compassionate, resolute and resilient - a people of our own time, reaching back one hundred years with pride and solemnity, looking forward with a sense of purpose to a better world.
Founders' Day
On Thursday 5 May we celebrated and acknowledged our Founders with the theme, “One Heart for Mission”. Nano had a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a spirituality of the heart. And Edmund, a man with a great and expansive heart, reminded us to let Jesus live in our hearts forever.
Our College is already a member of the Nagle Education Alliance of Australia, formally maintaining our links with the Presentation Sisters. In a celebration, we formalised our ongoing connection with the Christian Brothers through our membership with the Edmund Rice Education Australia as an Associate School.
We gave a special welcome to our House Patrons Archbishop Francis Carroll - Patron of Carroll House, Br Carl Sherrin - Patron of Sherrin House, Sr Barbara Webber - Patron of Webber House. We also welcome Br Paul Oakley representing Edmund Rice Education Australia, Sr Colleen Moloney, Sr Fran Dengate, Sr Carmel Clancy, Sr Kaye Bryan and Sr Alexis Horsley representing the Presentation Sisters and Director of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga, Mr Alan Bowyer and Catholic Schools Consultant Mr Kerry Mowett.
Their hearts were filled with a passion
that lit a fire
that expanded to every continent.
The passion was a love for God
to be found within each man and woman,
especially the poorest.
We are challenged by very human situations that call upon our gifts of empathy, patience, and even tolerance. As brothers and sisters of Edmund and Nano, we are encouraged to open up the door of our whole heart.
GOSPEL CONNECTIONS - The Ascension of the Lord
We might compare the Ascension to the passing of a baton from one runner to another in a relay race. On this day, just over 2000 years ago, Jesus passed the baton of his work to Peter, James, and John. They, in turn, passed it on to the people who came after them. They, in turn, passed it on to us. And now it is our turn to pass it on to others.
How do we pass on the baton? We look into ourselves. There’s an old Chinese proverb that says:
If there is right in the soul, there will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person, there will be harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
What does ascending, climbing, lifting up mean in your life? In Jesus’ life?
How has the world benefited from the witnesses spreading Jesus’ good news?
