What is the subject about

Units 3 and 4 for VCE EAL English develops confident, articulate and critically aware communicators in written and spoken language. The principles within the study design are to include the explicit teaching of language and speaking and listening activities, as well as ensuring that there is some flexibility around the types and the length of texts available for the study, to assist students in achieving the written outcomes. Opportunities for EAL learners to engage with audio-visual texts are embedded in the study along with a scope to develop and refine their listening skills. EAL English extends students’ English language skills. It assists them in understanding how culture, values and context underpin the construction of texts. EAL English also assists students in making informed choices to further establish a sense of themselves, their world and their place in it. It equips students to actively participate in our democratic society and the global community.

  • Analytical interpretation of a selected text [essay]
  • Analysing argument and language (short answer and prose)
  • Comprehending spoken texts (short answers)
  • Detailed comparison of two selected texts present ideas, issues, themes  [essay}

Pathways

The study is intended to meet the needs of students with a wide range of expectations and aspirations, including those for whom English is an additional language. It aims to prepare students for further English-language education, tertiary or vocational education, and future employment

 

Prerequisites

You are required to study and satisfy all of the requirements for VCE EAL English                 Units 1 and 2.
