EDUCATION WEEK OPEN DAY

WEDNESDAY 25TH MAY FROM 9.30AM

Education Week 2022 will run from the 22nd-28th of May, and this year's theme is 150 Years of Public Education, to coincide with this milestone anniversary for Victoria. Wednesday 25th of May is our Open Day from 9:30 - 1:30. We invite all current and prospective families to visit our school. Members of the Student Representative Council will be on hand to show families around.

This year Education Week's theme is 150 Years of State Education and we will be celebrating Education Week with a number of fun activities based on this theme. Pre-covid we ran our Super Science Days where children rotated through several science activities based on a specific theme. We will use this model for our open day and children will rotate through the following activities:

Proposed Activities

  1. Artifacts: we are working to obtain a variety of artifacts for children to look at and learn about. Students will have an opportunity to practice their writing skills using chalk, ink pens, etc.
  2. Music and Dance: Old fashion music, songs and dances.
  3. Games: Olden games such as hopscotch, skipping, jacks or marbles, tiddlywinks
  4. Simple toys: Children will make a simple thaumatrope or cup and ball toy.

Displays

Forging metalwork: Student demonstration of basic metalwork using fire, hammer and anvil!

Traditional fare

Morning tea and coffee (or tea). For this one we are seeking parents who can help us out. See page 4 of this newsletter for further details.

Showbags

All prospective parents will receive a show bag containing school information and other bibs and bobs.

We look forward to seeing you on the day!

MAY 25

Celebrating our local neighbourhood schools

The principals in the Mount Alexander Network work closely together to improve the learning outcomes of every child at our schools.

We encourage parents of 2023 prep students, to visit your neighbourhood school on our District Open Day, Wednesday 25th May. Kindergartens and child care centres have received our fliers with contact details for each school. Most schools are open from 9:30-11am for school tours on this day. We ask parents to visit your neighbourhood school before looking at other schools, because we know that your neighbourhood school is a great school. Your neighbourhood school (local school) is your closest school. You can find your neighbourhood school at https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/

As a parent, you can be confident that your child will learn the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for life-long learning, social development and active and informed citizenship.

Teachers across our schools use evidence-based best practice to provide high quality literacy and numeracy programs. All schools offer a range of specialist programs including a Language other than English.
