5-8 Community News

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

A big shout out to all of the students for their tremendous work over the past two weeks. They are really living up to the high expectations that we, as staff, are continuing to demand and expect from them. There is some really high-level work that's occurring across multiple spaces.

In TA, we have continued to push and educate The Resilience Project and the students have continued to respond exceptionally well to this learning. Students have further explored their own character strengths and were encouraged to see how many of these they might like to develop in order to set their term goals.  Our students were also encouraged to look at their Term 1 report as an opportunity to see where they can improve. Do check in with your children about their goals for the term.  The work next week will have the students looking at being optimistic and hopeful, even when challenges arise. This video will be used to support the learning that's occurring. Most importantly, to understand what privilege is and what it means to be at a wonderful school and to have a wonderful home.

Students have also planned and prepared their Prayer Roster, a good opportunity for students to demonstrate their leadership skills at a faith level.

Lunchtime activities have continued to be a real hit with eight teams participating in the 5-8 indoor sports competition. At the moment, soccer is in full swing, with all teams participating.

An even bigger shout out to two of our teams, 'YTG and the Grade 5/6', taking on some of the boy teams. Get em girls!

Check out the ladder!!

Again, we strongly encourage you to have conversations with your children about attending, particularly if they are finding themselves bored and uninterested in the schoolyard.  We offer a lunchtime activity, each day, catered to a variety of interests. Our poster is attached and can also be found in our community spaces. There are a number of activities that provide exceptional opportunities, further developing positive relationships/friendships but also creating a very safe space for our children.

What we are working towards as a 5-8 Community

  • Continuing to be organised: books, learning equipment, device, school journal etc.
  • Getting to each lesson on time, especially after each break.
  • Utilising brain breaks for their purpose. So much research supports student breaks for self-regulation.
  • Continuing to stay within the designated 5-8 play areas.
  • Following teacher direction.
