Years 9-12 Soccer

Last Monday, our Years 9-12 soccer teams travelled to Moama to compete against the best of the best in the region. After a long bus trip, and some very poor music options, our four teams began to warm up for a big day on the soccer field.

The intermediate girls battled hard through their first round matchup against St Joes. After a few missed opportunities on both sides the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Ava, Alyse and Tia were all solid across the defence. Their next round matchup was guaranteed to be a good one as they faced off against SMOTA. They fought as hard as they could, but unfortunately let one slip past the keeper resulting in a 1-0 loss.

The intermediate boys had kick off straight away but couldn’t find form as they went up against an organised Echuca side. The second game showed big improvement in the side but unfortunately they let one goal through late. However, the boys saved the best for last as they dominated against SMOTA. This big breakthrough was the result of Bailey kicking three and Tom piling on one more.

The senior girls had a long wait for their first match but it did not disappoint. The girls brought their competitive nature to the St Joes match and had the spectators on the edge of their seats waiting for a score that never came. Nicola and Tori fought hard to be the game changers.  A nil all draw in the first game left the senior girls well prepared for the next match. Unfortunately the game didn’t go as planned against SMOTA as they conceded five goals and scored nothing.

The senior boys were set for a huge day as they went to battle against four other teams for the day. Some pretty ordinary nicknames and a game plan sorted, meant the boys were ready for kickoff. The boys hit their peak early winning 2-0 against Echuca. Cooper (Sheep) dominated with the help of Tom B (Disco) and Tom W (Squid). Unfortunately it was all downhill from there. A late goal to our rivals, Kyabram P-12, meant we lost the fight 2-3. Wounded coach, Marcus (Foot), tried everything to steer the boys back on path to victory but fell short as SMOTA and St Joes proved too strong.

All our teams competed really well all day and represented the school really well. It was a great day at Moama for all involved.

Years 5/6 soccer

Our Years 5/6 soccer tournament was set to be a very cold day out on the field as both our teams prepared for a competitive day in Moama.

The girls showed great skill as well as a willingness to never give up when things got tough. Bella, Mia and Lyla shone for the girls side all day. Although they finished in 5th there were lots of positives to take away from those matches.

Our 5/6 boys team were up and about the moment we stepped on the bus, as they were sure they could take out the whole thing. After a perfect start on the day, the boys rode this momentum to 1st on the ladder heading into finals. A great battle awaited in the grand final against Echuca 208 to move onto the regional finals. At the end of regulation time the boys were 2-2 and faced a penalty shootout to determine the overall winners. Our boys saved the best for last, winning a thriller of a shootout to move onto the next stage of soccer.

It was great to see all our students give it a good crack all day and demonstrate good sportsmanship, representing the school really well. A big congratulations to the 5/6 boys and good luck in the next stage!

Cross Country

St Augustine’s 5-12 Cross Country

Our Years 5-12 cross country was once again a great success this year as students ran their hearts out at the Parkland golf course. After Mr Fawcett and Zane marked out the 2km, Mr Fawcett thought it was a great idea to take the golf cart which would have saved us so much walking. After that bump in the road it was only smooth sailing from there as all the kids began to arrive at that track getting really keen to run. Overall, Delany were the winners with the shield gleefully accepted by Year 8 Delany leaders, Ben Chapman and James Hargreaves.

Congratulations to the following students for taking out age champions:

10/11 Years - Cody Pike and Immogen Buntine

12 Years - Ethan Greiner and Lily Taylor

13 Years - Cyrhil Cunanan and Charlotte Ross

14 Years - Ava Pell and Cooper O’Neill

15 Years - Bill Hipwell and Taytem Messenger

20 Years - Ben Campbell

Well done to all students for giving it their all throughout the day!

Years 7-12 Campaspe Cross Country

Our qualifying Years 7-12 students headed to Echuca to take on the big challenge of cross country. With some rain a few days before, the track was built on mud and puddles emphasising a true cross country track. All students embraced these conditions and left everything they could out on the track. Well done to all the students for their efforts throughout the day! A big congratulations to Bill Hipwell for placing 3rd, Ebony Keating for placing 2nd, and Charlotte Ross for placing 2nd in their respective age groups. Some students will have the opportunity to head to St. Arnaud for the Loddon Mallee Region finals to be held in Week 6.

Years 3-6 Campaspe Division Cross Country

Yesterday, our Years 3-6 students travelled to Moama to face up against several other schools in the cross country. The grass was green and the students were keen to show us how well they could do out on the track. All students embraced the challenge and put all their effort into their races. Congratulations to brothers, Aidan and Ethan Griener, for getting a podium finish in 3rd in their respective age groups. We have plenty of students who will now be heading to St Arnaud for the Loddon Mallee Region Cross Country in Week 6.
