Education Week Open Morning
This morning parents/grandparents/visitors enjoyed visiting the classrooms and seeing the children in their learning environment.
Shrine of Remembrance visit
On Monday of week three, Year 6s visited the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne. We had a tour underneath and inside the shrine. We learnt about Australia’s war history and the conditions in which Australians fought during the World Wars. We learnt that Gallipoli wasn’t the only stand Australia made in World War I. We also helped in France and many other wars since then. We went inside the Sanctuary, a particular part inside the Shrine. Here, we saw how the sunlight shines through a tiny hole at 11 o’clock on the 11th day of the 11th month. The guide showed us that it was like a laser that beamed across the words “Greater Love Hath No Man’. These words are on the floor of the sanctuary.
We had a great time there, and we hope next year’s Year 6s will also enjoy the same experience. Thank you to Ted Manallack and the Rotary Club of Monash for sponsoring and organising this trip.
Level 1/2 Literacy
In literacy as part of Reading and Writing we are looking at summarising and retell with a focus on fairytales.
Walk to school day
Friday was ‘Walk Safely to School Day’, which was an Australia-wide effort to promote the improvement of the environment and daily exercise routines. Walking to school is the perfect way to start the day by getting some exercise and fresh air, ready to start school with a clear mind.
Election Day BBQ
Thank you to those who volunteered to helpout at the Election Day BBQ. The names are listed in the Principal's report. The school raised $525 to go towards lining markings in the under cover area.
Robogals Experience
Hi, we are the Robogals of 2022, and we are going to share our terrific experience at John Monash Science School. Before we had to do a form, we wrote about our passion for STEM, and we got it!
To begin with, we got a cool robot named HI. HI was an intelligent robot, and it was made from Lego. We had ups and downs coding the robot. Some very nice high schoolers constructed us and helped us along the way. At the start of the lesson, we learned how to code HI to go forwards and backwards. Then we made a square, and we were the first to finish it. The high schoolers showed us PowerPoint to teach us. A wonderful girl helped us code/fix our robot because it was not in the best condition. Don’t you think we are more intelligent than Albert Einstein? Anyway, we also had to choose speed and direction.
Furthermore, they taught us an excellent code for a Sumo wrestling battle. It took us a while to get the code right because our robot kept going backwards. Eventually, a friendly high schooler helped us fix the problem. While doing a test run, one of our pieces fell off. Then it was battle time.
Last but not least, our robot HI started to fight and wrestle. Our robot came … First! Oh…., we mean last oops. Some other Robots began to drop out. Until one school won. We congratulated them.
It was a fun adventure. Even though we only went once, we still felt like champions. If you get chosen, we recommend you go. This was an exciting experience to remember.
