Sport Development Leader

I am thrilled to report that 2020 has started just the way we hoped - students returning back full of energy and primed to play sport for the College as well as tackle the all-important classwork.

The start of the year is always busy for everyone at the College, and the Sport Department is certainly that so far.   We have very large numbers signed up across all sports; next week will see close to 30 teams out training and competing in the college colours across nine sports.

We have 31 excited girls who are now starting preparation for the New Zealand Sports Tour in the Easter holidays = the fixtures are coming together well, with some great games planned through the North Island.  We wish these girls the best of luck in preparation.

Swimming is well underway, with our girls competing last week and this week at inter-school meets around Brisbane, and we are confident we will see an improved performance come 12 March at the CaSSSA Swim Carnival.  Look out for selections next week.

I will leave this short this week, as there is much to organise and put in place in readiness for next week.  Enjoy the read in this issue and remember -  It’s better to wear out, than rust out.   Keep moving, everybody.

Swimming Carnival

DATES

The 2020 Interhouse Swimming Carnival will be held over two sessions.  Please see below for further details.  Parents are encouraged to attend and support at these carnivals.

Long Course Events:  Monday 24 February, 3.30-5.00pm – Mount Alvernia Pool

This event is for all Butterfly and 100m/200m events as part of the Interhouse Carnival point system.  If you are wishing to obtain Age Champion Status this is a must-do event.

Interhouse Carnival Day – Monday 2 March – Centenary Pool

This is the big day for house competition.  Battle it out over the day for glory in the house competition.

AGE CHAMPION SWIMMERS

Nomination to become Age Champion is open for all swimmers; by nominating your score will be tracked throughout the two events.  Each swimmer's best four race scores will count.  In the event of a tie, the fifth score counts.  Nominations are open via this link https://forms.gle/LMArKs1JUBjAPdPi9   Champions are announced at assembly with medals for placegetters.

PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE ONLY SWIMMING FOR HOUSE POINTS, YOU DO NOT NEED TO NOMINATE FOR ANY EVENTS.  PLEASE JUST TURN UP WHEN THE EVENT IS CALLED ON THE DAY.

Call for Parent Volunteers

With the increase in teams, the Sport Department is seeking any volunteers who wish to help with the running and management of teams or programs.  If you have some spare time or skills as a coach or team manager we would love to hear from you.

All sport team staff receive a Sport Staff polo and cap.  Be part of the team!  Contact the Sport Department at sport@mta.qld.edu.au or call the Office on 3357 6000.

Representative Sport

A friendly reminder to keep an eye on Notices and the Met North Sport website for Information regarding District and Regional sporting trials.  To trial at a district or regional sport it is expected you are competing at school or club level.  Please ensure all paperwork is returned to the Sport Office by nomination closure.  Failure to do so could eliminate you from the trial.

A reminder that Mount Alvernia College is part of the North West Independent District for thirteen- to nineteen-year-olds.   Our twelve-year-old students still come under North District Sport.  All details are found by clicking the link - https://metnorthschoolsport.eq.edu.au/
