HERMIT CRABS
Students viewed and discussed a mini – documentary by David Attenborough, about Hermit Crabs moving homes. They published a list of amazing FUN FACTS that they learned during the documentary.
DID YOU KNOW?
- Hermit crabs need a shell for shelter and protection. Tiasha
- Hermit crabs use ABANDONED sea shells as mobile moving homes. Tiasha
- As it grows, its shell becomes too tight and needs to find a new PERFECT sized home – just right! Esmond
- When an empty shell washes ashore, all the hermit crabs gather nearby and MEASURE and size each other using their legs and claws. Esmond
- EXTRAORDINARILY, the crabs get themselves in a line, in order of size: the biggest at the front and the smallest at the end. Abbey
- When the crabs are ready to EXCHANGE their shells, they start a domino effect, like a chain reaction, where they all quickly move into the next sized shell. Mack
- A Hermit crab without a shell, can die from sunburn or predators. Liam
- When a crab can’t find a bigger shell, it just sits under the old shell WAITING! Abbey
- Hermit crabs can CLIMB into their shell in 8 seconds! Mack
- They are SCAVENGERS and eat whatever they can find. Tiasha

“POSTCARDS"
@#weeden#year4#holidays#postcards
This term, students in the year 4 Extension and Enrichment Literacy program recently shared their reflections about school holidays. Students were asked to organise their ideas into a postcard format, selecting a range of expressive vocabulary and emoji icons to compose an entertaining and informative card to send to Mrs Watts.
