Walk to School 2019

Why is walking to school important?

Walking to school is a great way for kids and parents to reach their recommended 60 minutes of exercise per day. Whether your kids are riding, scooting or walking, it’s a great way to encourage kids to stay active and healthy.

Walking to school is also a great tool for building relationships. It’s a great time to chat about what kids are excited about for school that day, what they learnt, or what upcoming assignments they have at school. Walking with a group of other kids also helps your kids to meet more of their peers and interact with their parents, walking together is a fantastic way to build strong, healthy relationships!

We recommend dropping your kids off at different locations close to the school so that kids get an idea of how to navigate their local area and can pick out different landmarks and streets around their neighbourhood. This also exposes them to different crossings and roads around your area, a great way to build their road safety skills. Kids can learn more about all the big roads in their area and where all the pedestrian crossings and traffic lights are.

There are so many different reasons to walk, ride or scoot to school! It’s a great way to fit in your daily 60 minutes and teach your kids about road safety, all while building strong relationships with your kids and their friends.
