Year 7 Humanities

Year 7 Excursion to Williamstown

Recently, 90 Year 7 Humanities Students enjoyed an hour long cruise from Southgate to Williamstown where they engaged in fieldwork on the topic of liveability. The sightseeing cruise was a highlight for our Students as they listened to informative and interesting commentary from our Captain, whilst travelling down the Yarra River.  Along the way there were many landmarks that the Students could identify including: Sea Life Aquarium, Eureka Towers, Crown Casino, the Exhibition Centre, Polly Woodside, the Docklands, Melbourne Star,  the West Gate Bridge, the Port of Melbourne and Scienceworks.

In Williamstown the focus of our activity was a walk around the main streets identifying liveability factors. Williamstown’s historical architecture, beautiful beaches, parkland, shopping precincts and funky cafes, make it a popular seaside attraction for locals and tourists. Students compared Nelson’s Place (a heritage street alongside a tree lined park) which is geared for tourists and visitors to the local shopping strips in Ferguson Street and Douglas Parade. There was plenty to see and enjoy especially the food and ice cream treats!!
