Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

Grade 6 Graduation

On Tuesday night, despite COVID continuing to place restrictions on how we operate, we conducted our 2020 Grade 6 Graduation in unique style.

With parents and families unable to attend onsite, we were enlisted the services of Total Events Co to provide a LARGE outdoor screen in our car park and stream the event live to cars outside, to families in their living rooms and extended family and friends across the state and country.

Our games Hall was recently decked out with a beautiful big bright screen and improved speakers (can't wait for assemblies to return...) and our Graduating Group were the first to make use of it for our official ceremony which included photo presentations, awards and speeches.

The celebration concluded with parents (in small groups and face masks), coming onto site taking some photos which will no doubt now be long lasting memories of this special occasion.

Congratulations to each and every Graduate. In a year like no other, you have achieved so much and now ready to take on your next big Educational Adventure in High School!

Thanks to the many staff involved in organising the night and in particular Kate and Carla who were highly influential in the night's success.

Grade 3-4 Lady Northcote Day Camp

After a few interruptions, the 3-4 Learning Community were FINALLY able to participate in their camp experience at YMCA Lady Northcote. They were off early on the bus to Bacchus Marsh where they were welcomed by the staff of Lady Northcote and each activity was explained. Students were excited to participate in an ‘Amazing Race’ style program with each event gaining points for the team. Some of the activities students participated in were canoeing, low ropes course, archery and tennis. All of the students who participated showed commitment and collaboration with their peers, cheering and encouraging each other along the way. After a busy day of being outdoors and participating in all of the activities, students headed back to school for the end of the day.

Cooper – Archery was my favourite and I hit the red target! Kaleb – it was the greatest camp and archery was my favourite too.

Willow – It was really fun and the food was delicious! My favourite activity was getting the balls out of the pool. It was a really nice camp experience.

Ella – I loved all of the activities that were there, and the staff did a really good job of taking care of us.

The winning team of the day was Callum’s homegroup who finished the day with 355 points!

Well done to everyone for a brilliant day. We are already getting excited for next year’s camp now!

Whole School Transition

Next Tuesday, December 8th we will be holding our Whole School Transition Sessions (11.30 a.m. - 1.20 p.m.). On this day students currently enrolled, plus many who will be joining us in 2021 will have the opportunity to get together in their 'new' Home Groups, in what will likely be new Learning Communities for many.

We have nearly all of our new staff for 2021 joining us too, which will be great for them to begin to get a feel for ACS and start building relationships with students.

Student will be provided a Welcome Letter from their Home Group Teacher, which will include the names of other students in that Home Group. Remember at ACS, Home Groups provide students and families that one main point of contact and support, but that students will work with multiple staff and students from different Home Groups throughout any given day.

Best of luck to our Grade 6 students participating in their Year 7 Transition Day on Tuesday as well! You will have a great time!!

2019 Fundraising Efforts

Our Parents and Community Club (PACC) coordinated several events during 2019 with the fundraising focus on Literacy resources.  The aim was to add as many new reading resources to our Learning Communities as possible.

Their fabulous and tiresome work organising events like our Father’s and Mother’s Day celebrations, school disco and our whole school community Twilight Evening meant a total of $10,542 was raised in 2019.  These funds, along with the commission received from our annual Book Fair secured the purchase of many, many new books which have thoroughly engaged our students, encouraging them to become avid readers and strengthened their love of reading.

A portion of these funds were also used to purchase sports uniforms until our sponsorship funds from Armstrong Creek Vet were received. Hopefully 2021 will see our students out and about representing our school and looking amazing at the same time!

Thank you to everyone who took part in our fundraising events – we simply could not do this without you!

Please note : Funds raised in one year are spent in the following year in accordance with DET financial guidelines.  We will ensure to keep you up to date with funds raised and purchases made every year.

The Fundraising focus for 2020 was for Lunchtime Clubs and Numeracy resources and at this stage, our wonderful school community has helped raise $1,900!  Such a supreme effort given the challenging year everyone has experienced and that it has all been achieved remotely/virtually!

We look forward to sharing with you all the great resources we purchase during 2021!

International Day of People with Disability

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is held on 3 December each year.

IDPwD is a United Nations observed day, celebrated internationally. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

Throughout the week, Armstrong Creek School student’s participated in varied activities to increase their understanding and appreciation of the diversity and ability amongst all people in society.

Here is just a snapshot of our week.

Have a great weekend!
