Sports Report
Year 7 cricket team
We were upbeat this week in the Sports Department, happy to have Sport up and running again. Our year level Sports Sign-ups have been very successful, the Gym and GMR have been buzzing with students excited to sign up for up-and-coming sports for the year. With only Year 8s remaining, we have had move their sign-up day – this has now been changed to Thursday 25 February. All year 8 Students will be able to see this on their Compass Schedule.
Before Lockdown, we were lucky enough to send out our Senior Boys and Year 7 Boys cricket teams to both successfully compete in Division Competitions. Due to Lockdown our Year 8 Cricket Teams, who were due to play on Monday 15 February will have to wait a little bit longer. Their competition has now been moved to Tuesday 23 February. The event date has been updated on Compass, any families who have already paid for this event have been carried over to the new date.
Changes due to COVID
With things changing constantly due to COVID, we will communicate any updates to fixtures, dates etc via Compass. We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed that sport will continue this year. Stay active, stay safe.
Senior Girls Cricket
Our senior girls team have had a fortunate start to the year of sport by moving straight into the regional competition due to other schools not being able to field a side. The team will compete on Tuesday February 23.
Good luck!
Darebin Division - Senior Boys
Game 1 vs Thornbury High. We lost the toss and batted first. After losing a quick start but also a few early wickets Lenny Dean top scored with a quick 29* and was well supported by Jack Foenander in a match winning partnership. Thornbury's batting was tied down early by Matt Foster and Finley Ward in their chase of 80 off 10 overs. With their two best batsman being well caught by Felix Corcoran and Aiden May early setting up the win.
Lenny also showed quick reflexes to take an impressive catch in the gully.
Game 2 vs Lalor. With our main competition beaten, Northcote just had to beat an inexperienced Lalor High side to progress. Lalor managed 38 off 10 overs with Max Daphne grabbing a triple wicket maiden in the middle overs. Northcote passed the target without any trouble and batted out 8 overs scoring 60 with Ethan McKenzie top scoring on 25*.
On their first outing at secondary school our Yr 7 boys had a taste of Northcote High Success and winning both of their games against Preston High School and Lalor. At the end of the competition our boys were overall winners. They will now proceed to the Regional Competition which will be played in Term 4. Well Done boys and a big thank you to our Student Coaches James Wickett and Luke Campbell and to Mr Medcalf for running tryouts and team selection and Mr Bartholomew for attending and coaching on the day.
