Careers News

Planning your next steps
Now is a great time for any student planning to transition from NHS in 2022 to make an appointment to chat about their plans for further study or work. I have been talking to a number of Year 12 students who are in the early planning stages of their transition into 2022. It’s great to be proactive in this space, and the timing is good in term one for availability of appointments. Appointments can be made via the Careers page on myNorthcoteHigh.
It was remiss of me last time to not mention the arrival of Lou Renard to the Careers space in Student Services. Lou has joined us 3 days a week (Tues-Thurs) in VET and Careers administration. She has a plethora of experience in education – in careers, teaching and administration (and Bollywood!) which you can read about in the Welcome New Staff feature in this issue. A big welcome to Lou!
Just a reminder to also keep your eye on the the weekly Careers News on myNorthcoteHigh. There is so much to share!!
Year 10 Work Experience
We are still hoping to provide Year 10 students with an opportunity to spend a week in the workplace from 17 - 21 May. Students should be proactively working towards finding a placement for that week.
Arranging Work Experience will be the focus in Connect classes this term, as well as completing the Occupational Health and Safety certifications. The first deadline to secure your placement, and complete the arrangement form – including getting it signed by your employer – is the end of term one. The reason for this is to not only allow time for all the paperwork to be processed and sent to employers, but also to give students the best chance of finding a placement of their choice.
myNorthcoteHigh has a plethora of information to guide and assist students through the process of finding a placement, and completing the paperwork. Simply go to Careers and click on the Work Experience tab.
