Principal's Report

Student Leadership Positions 2021:
We have conducted our selection process for many of the student leadership positions for 2021 so they can be formally taken up from the start of 2021. I congratulate all students who went through an extensive application process where candidates delivered a speech to their fellow students (then a voting process is completed by students and staff). I am pleased to announce the successful candidates who will form the new student leadership team:
2021 College Captains: Gloria Christopher & Vanessa Achampong
2021 Balak Leaders: Year 12 – Steven Ngata & Manmeet Kaur, Year 11 – Prabh Simran & Margaret Salesulu
2021 Chirnside Leaders: Year 12 – Jade TeAute, Year 11 Raima Khan & Bikramjot Singh
2021 Gillard Leaders: Year 12 – Kiarra Guerrieri & Abby Yabut, Year 11 – Naufal Muhammad & Monil Joshi
2021 Penrose Leaders: Year 12 – Logan Pringle & Swap Kaur, Year 11 Jazmin Tuakana & Juuk Manyang Malet
Tutoring Program:
Tarneit Senior College is receiving just over $300,000 in funding for the implementation of the DET tutor program in 2021 to assist in supporting students whose progress has been limited due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding will complement what we already have in place with our own intervention programs and MYLNS funding intervention at Years 10. It is possible that students who are already getting support from one of these programs will also need additional support from the tutoring program.
We are currently working through a process with leadership and staff to identify all students across Years 10-12 (2021) who haven’t progressed or demonstrated growth as we would have expected or predicted for this year. This may be social-emotional, engagement, literacy, numeracy and/or thinking skills. Most likely tutors will be in the classroom to co-teach – supporting a small group of students in a class, rather than withdrawal. Identified students will receive 2-3 x 60 minutes of support a week for at least the first 6 months of the year. All parents of students selected for any of our intervention programs and now the tutoring program will be contacted to give their consent for their child's participation.
2020 Graduation:
Our departing Year 12s have left a lasting legacy and leave us with amazing ambitions for the next stage in their journey. I feel really fortunate to have had the opportunity to farewell them properly in a graduation ceremony that allowed us to live stream to families to honour every students achievement in making it through an incredibly challenging year with Integrity, Innovation & Focus. Our Graduation can still be watched via link: https://youtu.be/Pzag43q87XY - to date we have had over 2700 views
I know that our school has had a lasting impact on each and every one of our students. It might be a teacher hey will remember fondly, a friendship they have made or an experience they have had. Either way, Tarneit Senior College has had a hand at shaping the person that they are now and the person they are yet to become.
It has been great to watch them grow, mature, commit and achieve throughout their time at Tarneit Senior College. But through determination and support of each other, they built a bond that was purposeful and focused and created a culture of success and completion.
Whilst their time as Students has come to an end, they will always be part of the Tarneit Senior College community, and we look forward to them returning and sharing their journey with us.
Have a restful break:
I hope you all have a restful and happy holiday period. I think we all deserve some time to spend with the people we care about after such a challenging year. Happy Christmas and I hope that the New Year sees all our students safely back with us, ready to make 2021 a year of success for the Tarneit Senior College community.
