Careers

We are very proud of our Year 12’s students!
They have endured all sorts of hardships in their final year of secondary schooling. The g
Graduates of 2020 will be known as the most resilient Year 12’s ever! We wish all our Year 12 students the best of luck and remind them that HPSC Careers Staff will continue to support them in 2021.
Students have been sent a COP (COP=Change of Preference – changing your courses in VTAC) Information Pack on both TEAMS and Compass. This pack contains lots of information, especially for students applying for University and some TAFE courses.
ATAR results will be released on 30th December this year. (due to COVID-10) To support our students, careers staff will be available for remote support via TEAMS to help with COP.
See timetable below:
- Wednesday 30 December from 9am – 3pm Lisa Benporath & Deb Edwards on TEAMS
- Thursday 31st December from 9.00-3.00pm Deb Edwards & Lisa Benporath on TEAMS
- Friday 1st January – Closed

This is a crucial time in applying for courses – it is very important that students have preferences that are realistic and in the right order.
All students have been sent documents explaining this process via the Year 12 Careers TEAM page. The same documentation has also been sent via each student’s Compass email address.

Career Tools
Did you know that each HPSC Student has their own personal Career Tools Account? This program is accessible via the Hampton Park Secondary College website and enables you to research career pathways, jobs, create a resume and lots more!
Recently we have been working with our Year 10’s, 11’s and 12’s learning about their strengths and interests and how this can help to determine suitable career pathways. We have also been researching what courses and training students need to undertake to land their dream job!

Headstart
Head Start is a program designed to help students begin an apprenticeship or traineeship whilst still at school.
The program recognises that everyone learns differently, has different interests and career goals.
Head Start lets you start learning skills for an apprenticeship or traineeship early – while still making sure that you get the real life knowledge that employers need by completing your VCE or VCAL.
When you finish school, you’ll have your VCE or VCAL as well as having finished (or be close to finishing) your training - giving you a head start on everyone else. You can choose from apprenticeships and traineeships in key industries such as building, construction, community services and health, business and primary industries. See Mr Evans in the Careers Office for further information.
Further Learning
If you’re stuck at home but don’t want to fall behind on your learning, or are just looking for something different than watching Netflix all day, there are heaps of online providers that offer courses and education resources.
You can study almost any subject you can think of, and many of them are free as well.
