YEAR 8 CAMPUS NEWS

WHAT A TERM IT HAS BEEN
The last week of term is a good chance to reflect on the half of the year that has just been and an 11 week term always provides plenty of opportunities for many learning experiences.
From the highlight of the Grampian’s camp in week four through to NAIDOC Day, St Joseph’s Day, Cross Country as well as all of the work that has been completed in classes, students and teachers alike are all ready for a well deserved break.
Students have the opportunity to reflect on their semesters block of work via their reports and the assessment comments that they have received from Learning Areas throughout this semester. Feedback is one of the key drivers for academic growth, so please ensure that you sit down with your child to reflect on their work and create some goals for the remainder of the year. Students will have the chance to reflect on their reports during class time early next term and it would be great to see them prepare for this before they return to classes.
We try to focus on the positives, occasionally there will be areas that we can improve on. Whether this is an academic or behaviour focus or friendship concerns, the way to improve is establish clear goals and develop a process that will allow for development.
One of the mechanisms that we use at the Mercy Campus to create improvement is the use of SMART goals. SMART goals are goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. This allows for students and those working with them to set realistic goals and develop strategies to achieve these goals. If you would like some assistance for your child in developing these, please contact myself or your child’s Pastoral Care Group teacher to assist with this.
