Student Leaders News

Hello and welcome to our Student Leaders page in our school newsletter.

We hope you enjoy our fortnightly updates about school events, our learning and educational activities.

We want to tell you about our buddies. When you get to Year 5 and 6 you get to have your own Prep buddy. You get to do fun and educational activities with each other like reading, getting to know each other and art activities.

“My buddy is a little shy but we are getting to know and listen to each other”. Harjot

“My buddy is very energetic and she is always positive.”  Ashal.

We are in the middle of Lent and the Project Compassion campaign.

We have organised a Crazy Hat Day for tomorrow, Friday so please bring a GOLD COIN and stick a crazy hat on your head. The purpose of this is to raise money for Caritas.

Recently many classes from Years 3-6 participated in cross country trials. This event is planned for Term 2.

Our awards assembly next Monday won’t happen in the church but the awards will be read out over the PA so everyone knows who has been a great learner at SMDP.

We began introducing you to our student leadership group in the last newsletter when we put some sentence beginnings to Will and Jeremiah to find out a little more about them as they take on the roles of being our 2020 Technology leaders.

Today, we meet Ashal, Environmental and Social Justice Leader for 2020.

From Ashal..

Something most People don't know about me is.. the first thing I have ever won was a 50 metre race of breast stroke.

3 things I would take if my house was on fire…my parents, brother and money.

Furthest place from Laverton I have been.. Auckland, New Zealand.

My typical Saturday involves… watching Disney+ and relaxing.

I'd love to invite... Malala to dinner because she protested to make a difference, nobody listened but she still tried, she got hurt but she still continued, she had a better life and I would love for her to give me some advice.

I am amazed by… people that try their best in creating something huge and succeed.

I'd love to be able to... persuade more people to do good in our world, because if we don't, it might not last much longer.

People say… that I'm a fun and entertaining person.

St Martin De Porres is… a school full of role models that respect the SMDP Community.

A Leader is… someone who is willing to make a commitment in order to make the SMDP Community a positive place.

Thanks for reading our newsletter and we want to wish everyone in our community happy holidays.
