Principal's Report

Hello BRPS community,

Welcome to the latest newsletter, the final newsletter for Term 2, I hope this edition finds you well.

I want to thank our 585 students for the dedication and commitment they have shown to their learning and engagement across the wider school program this term.

I wish all families and students a fun-filled and relaxing end of semester break.

Engaging Activities!

Foundation Healthy Food Restaurant

Last Wednesday the Foundation students were excited to participate in a Rolling Fun Incursion as part of their ‘Staying Alive’ Inquiry Unit. Hung, our Rolling Fun host, sang songs and created a lot of discussion around why it is important to have a healthy and colourful diet. Following Hung’s careful instructions students confidently made four rice paper rolls each with apple, capsicum, cucumber and even blueberries. The Foundation students loved getting dressed up as chefs and wait staff to serve their special guest a healthy and yummy lunch!

Year 3 Excursion to Garden World

During Term Two the Year 3’s Unit of Inquiry topic was, ‘Plants In Action,’ to further develop the children’s understanding of plants we visited Garden World On Friday 21 June. The students participated in various activities such as examining seeds, re-potting plants, investigating indigenous plants, desert plants, exotic plants and water gardens. The wet conditions did not dampen the students' excitement and learning experience. Some of the students’ highlights were:

“Seeing the Venous Fly Trap in real life.” Juul

“Garden World was the best. When we walked in we saw the big catfish and I saw a tree that was planted in the 1833.” Sam

“The most fascinating thing, I think was the cactus garden,” Ava

“Planting the vegetables of our choice.” Jack V

Many thanks to BRPS parent, James Wall, who facilitated the visit to his thriving and very interesting business!

The Ridiculous Rhyme Show

On Friday 14th June our whole school was treated to a performance by presenters Henry & Dickie from the children's television show "The Ridiculous Rhyme Show!"

It was an action-packed performance with plenty of audience engagement and excitement, not to mention the rhyme creations!

Year 4 & 6 TV Workshops

After the whole-school performance our Year 4 & 6 students participated in a TV Workshop where they learnt about some of the technical aspects of TV production and brushed up on their acting skills!

Student Illness and Hygiene

We're now well-entrenched in the Winter months at the end of a term and there has been a rise in students (and staff) affected by illness common to this time of year.

Good general hygiene remains the best defence against infection.  As well as reinforcing personal and hand hygiene habits, such as encouraging children to regularly wash their hands and cover their nose and mouth if sneezing and coughing, staff and parents can do the following to help slow the spread of illness:

  • students with cold or flu-like symptoms or vomiting or diarrhoea should be encouraged to seek medical attention, limit contact with others and stay at home until symptoms have passed
  • if a child becomes ill at school with these symptoms, we will contact families and arrange for the collection of the child
