Principal’s Message

Mr Nick Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

It was lovely to welcome back all of our students yesterday morning for the beginning of Term Three. Quite a lot has happened since we were all last together! We have needed to put in place many of the same COVID restrictions that were in place during 2020 to comply with the conditions set out by the NSW Government and Catholic Schools New South Wales. In short, these conditions include;

  • Only essential visitors to the school are permitted.
  • Parents are not permitted on school grounds, with the exception of those parents working in the canteen. Strict hygiene guidelines are in place for canteen volunteers.
  • Parents and families may still enter the front office, however masks must be worn inside and parents must check in via the COVID QR Code.
  • Community events during school hours are not permitted.
  • Overnight excursions and camps are not permitted.

Given the conditions in place, it is necessary to postpone our Grandparents Day to a date later in the school year. Parent/Teacher Interviews may also be postponed, however we are looking at conducting these interviews over the phone rather than in person. The status of events that are scheduled for later in the term such as the Working Bee and the Father’s Day Breakfast will be considered as we get closer to the date. We are still hopeful that the Year 5/6 Excursion can go ahead in Term Four, however a decision will be made closer to the date.

In relation to illness, any student with flu-like symptoms must stay away from school. Return to school is not permitted until a negative COVID test result is received and the child is free of any symptoms.

We have a large supply of hand sanitiser and soap for bathrooms and we will keep reminding children about good hand hygiene. If you would like to provide your child with their own sanitiser to keep in their bag that is perfectly fine. Our classroom common surfaces are cleaned frequently and we will keep ventilation in classrooms as open as possible (depending on the weather).

Thanks in advance for your support. Obviously, we are guided by the conditions set out by the NSW Government and we will continue to follow their advice in the future. If you are unsure about anything, or would like further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Special mention to Matilda Rowland who will be celebrating her 8th birthday on Thursday 15th July. We hope you have a great day!

Congratulations to Deb Rowland and Steven Martin and Matilda on the safe arrival of their twins Travis and Zoe during the holidays. It was lovely to have Matilda back at Sacred Heart yesterday morning!

Have a great week!

Nick
