Study Club Term 2

Study Club had recommenced in Term 1 and Term 2 of 2021. It has been a great start to the year with the amount of students that attended Thursday afternoon, which increases every week. The dedication and commitment shown from these students has been outstanding. For year 7's starting their first year of high school and to see them making an effort to attend Study Club in their first year, has shown they want to improve and strive to their best ability.

Our dedicated Study Club is supervised by Mr Rizzeri, Ms Turnunen, Support Staff, Staff, Myself, and the Year 12 leadership team. Their role is to assist the students in completing homework, as well as providing valuable guidance. We have students from Year 7 to Year 12 in attendance in which it has shown that the study club has helped students build confidence, good study habits and supporting busy families.

I CARE KITS:

Last Friday, Mr Abadala, Miss Polimeni, Mrs Barber and Myself had prepared the I-Care Kits for our compassion project of term 2. We would like to thank the staff, students and their families for their generous support in donating items for the I-Care Kits, which came from year group. This year we would like to thank the K Mart Store Manager & his Staff for their donations in completing our I-Care Kits.

We here at Marian Catholic College are proud of our recent compassion work of donating personal items to help the homelessness as a College Community.

The Kits are donated to Linking Community Networks who manage both the Women's Refugee and youth links. The service also works closely with a local facility which houses males who also finds themselves homeless.

Past projects have enabled us to provide continuous support to our local community, so this year, we reached out to Kmart Griffith. Kmart supports hundreds of schools, kindergartens and local community groups with their fundraising efforts. With the generosity of the Store Manager, Peter West Management Team,  Betty Lauifi and staff member support we received donations of personal items to fulfil the total of our I-Care Kits.

Film - 'Journey beyond fear'

Friday, 25 June, Mr Abadala and I took 8 students to the Regional Theatre to watch the Film - 'Journey beyond fear'.  We were invited by Will Mead who is the Convenor Rural Australians for Refugees in Griffith. Among the audience was also staff and students from  Murrumumbidgee High. All student's sat in despair and watched The amazing journey of a teenage girl and her family being refugees for 18 years, and how only 1% are resettled – this information most people don’t understand or know about.

“Journey Beyond Fear is an important film which shows us that people have an enormous capacity for LOVE, DETERMINATION and SACRIFICE. It's a thought provoking piece that EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE!

Student's Feedback after watching a Refugee Film, 'Journey Beyond Fear'

I really enjoyed the film. It was really interesting and educational. I learned a lot about how refugees live their lives. How much they struggle to keep their family safe and provide them with enough food and shelter. They suffer a lot throughout their lives like working at a young age, not getting a chance to get educated. But If they work hard and don’t give up hope then they also get a better future.

Today's excursion was not just a fun excursion but it was also an educational excursion, this film taught me what refugees go through when they are in a country, in this case, Afghanistan, and struggling, working hard, and even getting to a stage where there is not enough money for them. Then from all the hard work they have put into getting a visa for Australia, the family finally receives good news about their visa and they get it! They are such a happy and successful family when they settle in Australia!

I really liked the concept of the film. It really showed the pain of being a refugee especially when you have to wait months and even years on your case, by that time you would have had thoughts about is my case already denied or not. I was really glad that after all that time they had a good education and could become something.

Thank you a lot Miss for inviting us to the film and organising it all. Really Appreciate it and enjoyed it a lot.
