Assistant Principal News

Dear Parents,

As our term draws to a close I wish to thank both Staff and Students for their dedicated and determined approach to learning this Semester. Our community has had so many opportunities this term to embrace new experiences, either in the field of learning, faith and care and our students and staff have once again demonstrated their willingness to live the College ethos of ‘The Way, the Truth, the Life’.

After reading all Semester One reports, this commitment to learning was particularly evident in many students across Years 7-10. I congratulate those students who have excelled or improved in their learning, and encourage everyone to reflect on ways to improve their learning in Semester Two.

Parents and students can access reports by clicking on the ‘View Academic Reports’ link under the Student Dashboard Profile or clicking on the ‘Reports’ tab from the Student’s Profile, and then ‘Year 7-10 Semester One Reports’. This will download a PDF of the report.

For each subject, teachers have reported on:

  • Commitment to Learning
  • Semester Grade
  • Commendations and Recommendations

Please note that the Semester Grade is based on the student’s achievement, knowledge and understanding against each subject’s performance descriptors and the Common Grade Scale. This includes both Summative Assessment Tasks and Formative in Class Learning Activities.

Students will also receive a Homeroom Report which indicates:

  • Personal Attributes
  • Commendations and Recommendations
  • Absences

We encourage all parents to have conversations with their children about what they have done well, what they need to improve, how they can do this and how they can support their child.

We will hold Parent Teacher Student Conferences early in Term 3.

While junior students are reviewing this Semester One progress. Senior students too have much to focus on. Year 11 students should be refocusing on their study schedule and preparing their study notes and skills in preparation for the upcoming Preliminary Exams (Weeks 9 and 10 of Term 3).

Year 12 students should be using their holiday break to engage in regular quality revision and exam practice. To do this effectively students should be doing a combination of the following:

  • Collating, refining and finishing study notes
  • Reading, rewriting, visualsing, or listening to study notes to learn them
  • Start answering past questions
  • Answer extended response questions and complete exams with study notes hidden

Some students may wish to work to their normal timetable or their own specially designed study schedule.

Students are reminded to make time for breaks and hobbies as well as study.

Some teachers will be running optional tutorials during the two week break. Below is a copy of the schedule.

Finally, please note that the first day of Term 3 (12th July) will be a Staff Professional Learning Day. Staff will engage in professional learning on Literacy and Numeracy, learning strategies and embedding these into their programs. The sessions will be run by our Literacy Instructional Teacher Angela Morris, who will focus on building staff capacity in writing and the Numeracy Team who will focus on developing College wide numeracy strategies.

Thanks for your support this term, enjoy your holiday break.
