Health and

Physical Education

Members of the the Health and Physical Education Learning Area have been doing an amazing job to provide continuity of teaching and learning for our students.

A number of the topics that are covered in the junior Health curriculum are slightly sensitive and possibly confronting for students at home. It was a challenge for our junior Health teachers to adjust the topics and content, so that what was being taught  remotely, was safe and appropriate for our students.

Our Year 8 Health classes are covering a very important unit on alcohol. The teachers have been able to put together some amazing resources for the students to guide them whilst learning about alcohol and the law, teenagers and drinking, the consequences of excessive drinking and what to do in different situations.

Similarly, our Year 9 Health teachers had to make a number of adjustments to ensure the teaching and learning of the curriculum could continue. The program that has been put together by the Health teachers, provides the girls with great insight into ‘harm minimisation’.

Our Year 7 Physical Education teachers have been able to continue with the planned Physical Education  curriculum this term and have put together a fantastic remote dance unit for the term. As the girls would have if they had been at school, they have learnt a number of dances such as the 'Nut Bush', 'The Bus Stop' and 'The Heel Toe Polka'. Despite not being together at school, they will be working in groups to produce a dance to present to the class. We will try and show  some of their final routines in upcoming newsletters for everyone to see.

All of our Year 10, 11 and 12 students have an allocated 30-minute ‘fitness activity’ session on Wellbeing Wednesday. We hope that this is providing the girls with some ideas and motivation to do exercise on a number of occasions throughout the week.

If you are looking for some ideas on how to stay active or to work on your health and wellbeing, take a look at our ‘Physical Activity Guide’.
