Students of photography

You don’t take a photograph, you make it.

Of all art forms, photography is perhaps the one that we all engage with most regularly.

At BSC, photography students refine their ability to use this accessible art form by studying composition to develop interesting and varied subject matter through digital and analogue methods. Two current photography students in Year 10 share their personal photography practices with us here.

Year 10

I have been taking photos for almost a year, and I really enjoy it.

I usually take long exposure, night photos with some daytime photos. Photography is great because it is a hands-on activity that requires lots on new ideas that come from experimenting.  It is also a great activity to do while hanging out with mates.

Almost all my best photos have come by accident  - from trying some different techniques that I thought might look cool but turned out amazing. I would encourage anyone to get into photography - try some new things, grab their phone and head out on an adventure.

I have also been sharing my photos on Instagram, my username is @shaycvella if you want to come check me out and show some support!

Year 10

Even though I only got my camera at the end of last year, I have been interested in photography my whole life.

My favourite genres are street photography, landscape photography and portrait photography, but I also like to experiment with more abstract concepts as well. I liked photos to have a certain mood, whether it’s sad and mysterious, or warm and calming.
