Fairhills High School Values
School Values
On Thursday 9th February, we held our first whole school assembly for the year. We took the opportunity to welcome back existing staff and students as well as our new staff and students. We have 4 new staff members (Mirza Skelic, Anne Buchroth, Atsuko Parker and Luke James), 83 new students in Year 7 and approximately 25 new students across Years 8 – 12. We also took the opportunity to relaunch our school values and I have included an extract of the material presented to the school community below.
“Fairhills High School is a great school with great educational programs, supportive staff and terrific students. There are so many positives about our school, and many great achievements."
For the well-being of everyone in our community, including the Principal, staff, parents, students and visitors, it is necessary to have shared rules that guide the behaviour of our community members. These behavioural expectations are built upon our core values and ensure that everyone in our school community is treated with fairness and respect. In turn, this helps create a school that is safe and orderly, where everyone is empowered to participate and learn.
Our School values are on display throughout the school. They have been for some time. Many of our students model these values on a daily basis consistently and without prompting. We very much appreciate and respect that. Our goal in relaunching our school values is to ensure that all students and members of the FHS community are thinking about and acting upon these school values, at all times.
Our school values are shown below and include some simple examples of how members of the FHS community can uphold them.
Feedback from our student, staff and parent surveys tell us that whilst most members of the FHS community do the right thing, most of the time, we need to refocus on the following three priorities for 2017:
We ask all students and parents to assist in the following:
- Wearing of the uniform correctly and with pride (Integrity, Responsibility, Respect).
- Coming to school and class on time with the necessary equipment (Responsibility, Persistence).
- Using positive language at all times. No swearing on purpose or accidently (Respect, Integrity, Inclusion).
We have asked our staff to model these behaviours and to help students understand and uphold these values. We wish to embed them into every aspect of our school life. Once again, we wish to acknowledge those members of the FHS community that embrace our values and apply them on a daily basis. We look forward to the year ahead and through the embedding of our school values in our day to day interactions we are confident we will see a positive growth in our school community.
