Visit from Chinese Education Delegation and Chinese Counsellor of Education

By Lucy Chen

On Friday the 22nd of Nov, MGC welcomed some special guests. They were from the China Education Press Agency (CEPA), Beijing. Members were composed of:

Zhenhai Lei, Vice President, CEPA; Chief Editor, China Teacher Weekly; Professor of Editorship, Guiqing Yang, Professor of Editorship; Director of Global Education & Educational Technology, Research Department, China Education Daily, and four editors.

Mr. Guo Chunming, Education Counsellor and Mrs Tian Qingfang, Education Consul from the Chinese Consulate-General in Melbourne accompanied the delegation.

The guests were warmly received by our AP Mr. Brent Houghton. They were very interested in finding out how our school is run as a girls’ college, the advantages, disadvantages and challenges. In China, there are very few girls’ schools. They also asked questions about the Confucius Classroom Program as well as other special programs. The delegates were very impressed with the breadth of our curriculum and the many opportunities MGC provides for girls through a great range of extra-curricular activities.

Professor Charles Qin (OAM) was commissioned as the interpreter. He is the top Chinese interpreter in Australia and a legendary figure who is well-known in the Chinese Community. I was so honoured to be able to represent MGC and receive such a prominent delegation with Mr. Houghton. I am sure there will be new links established and new opportunities emerged through this visit.
