Junior School Report

Year 8 Walkathon
On Friday October 23, the annual Brimbank Walkathon took place. With the weather fine all Year 8 students and their keen teachers started the trek to Brimbank Park. With Mr Turner setting a cracking pace, students reached the park in record time to enjoy some down time to recover from the 5 km walk. Icy poles were handed out as students and staff enjoyed the parks facilities. Lunch was then provided by the Junior School and quickly consumed by students whom had walked up a good appetite. Inter class sport competitions were then run, as students from the year level cheered on their peers in games such as tunnel ball and egg and spoon races. Time quickly went and to the delight of most and disappointment of some who wanted to walk back, the busses arrived to take us back to school. A really enjoyable day was had by all.
2016 Planning
Planning is taking place for the new school year in 2016. If your child will be moving schools next year could you please inform your child’s coordinator, in writing, as soon as possible. If you are planning a holiday and your child will not return to school on the first school day of 2016 we also need these details.
Whole School Assembly
Madaesya Palavi-Lyons 7E and Ian Alacantara 7F made a farewell speech to the Year 12 students at the Whole School Assembly during week 3. The students worked very hard on the presentation of their speech and delivered it with great confidence. Thank you to you both for your representation. We are proud of your efforts.
Hot Weather
Students are reminded that only water bottles are permitted in classrooms. Students will not be allowed to leave class to get drinks from the taps.
Junior School Staff Baby Competition
20 or so staff members from the Junior School have displayed their baby photos for students to guess what they looked like in their early years. The display has lots of students guessing which staff member is which. Winners will be announced at the next assembly.
End Of Year Activities
Students have been given permission slips for the end of year activities program to Funfields. This is a compulsory activity program and forms should be returned to the General Office ASAP.
Progress Reports
Teachers have just finished writing Progress reports. If there are any concerns with your child’s progress the Coordinators will ring you. Please ensure that we have up to date contact details.
Absences
We require attendance of 90% in order to pass subjects.
If your child is absent we require either a note signed by the parent or guardian explaining the reason for the absence. The note needs to include your child’s name, their class and the date of the absence. If your child has attended a doctor or dentist please ask for a medical certificate as that will not count as an absence.
You may also ring a leave a message explaining your child’s absence. The phone call or note need to be brought to the coordinator on the day the student returns to school.
The Big Day In
Our incoming 2016 Year 7 students attended the school last week to take part in some health and wellbeing sessions. Eager young faces were very enthusiastic about coming to the Secondary College to get a quick glimpse of what is in store for them next year. Thank you to all staff and students who made the new students feel welcome and helped make the day run smoothly.
