Pom and Cheers

Kilvington Pom and Stunt teams competed late last term at the Australian All Star Cheerleading State Championships. Kilvington Blue (Years 5 & 6) came 2nd in Primary School Pom, while Kilvington Magenta (Years 3 & 4) came 3rd in the same division. Kilvington Gold came 6th in the High School Pom division and Kilvington White (our first cheer team) came 2nd in Primary School level 1.

Well done everyone and many thanks to Jacinta Hope for coordinating our Pom teams.

Tech Girls Are Super Heroes

This year, five Year 10 girls, Jasmine Fassoulis, Tori Bullard, Aimee Coquillat, Gabby Farfor and Sophia Zikic, entered the Tech Girls Are Superheroes Competition.

The competition required the girls to make an app which solves a local problem. However, making the app is not all they had to do. Market research, design, planning and also coding the app was required. In the end they needed to enter a business plan, a pitch video, a demo video, a 100 word description and, of course, the code for the app.

Our Tech Girls Super Heroes were one of the Victorian State runners up in the Secondary Schools division.

Mental Health Week

This week is Mental Health Week at Kilvington and to support this initiative, Kilvington held a number of activities across the week for students, parents and staff including presentations from The Resilience Project, Beyond Blue, Headspace; yoga and meditations sessions; and special initiatives to aid wellbeing and put a smile on people’s faces.

The Resilience Project

Hugh van Cuylenburg from The Resilience Project spoke to Years 7 – 10 senior students about embracing gratitude, mindfulness and empathy in order to improve their mental health. He shared stories of his time in India and how it taught him to appreciate how fortunate we are here in Australia. A very inspirational speaker who had a great impact on students and staff alike.
