From the Leadership Team

Welcome Back to Term 4

A warm welcome back to everyone for another term full of activities and possibilities.

Staff

With delight I announce the appointment of Mrs Davina McClure to the role of Deputy Principal, commencing in 2017.  Davina is currently the Deputy Principal Teaching, Learning and Curriculum at The Hamilton and Alexandra College in Hamilton.

She has held a number of leadership and teaching roles including Director of Teaching and Learning, Director of Performing Arts and Music Teacher at independent schools such as Korowa and Caulfield Grammar.

Davina holds a Masters of Education (Educational Management), a Bachelor of Music Education and has completed a Certificate in Positive Education.  Her referees were glowing of her professional and personal skills and qualities, as indeed were the staff and Chair of the Board involved in the interview and selection process.  Davina will be a wonderful addition to the Kilvington leadership team.

I am also thrilled with the appointment of Mr Sebastian Earle to the position of Head of Junior School effective immediately.

Sebastian has particular strengths in leadership and pastoral care, and will continue to work closely with Monique Miotto, Dean of Teaching and Learning, to drive improvement in the Junior School.  I am sure you will join me in congratulating Sebastian on his appointment.

This week we have welcomed Mrs Judy Hunter to the School as replacement Teacher Librarian while Mrs Jane Viner is on personal leave.

Mrs Susanne Brush has tendered her resignation as Admissions Assistant and has accepted the position of Personal Assistant to the Leadership Team at Marcellin College. We wish Susanne well as she takes a new direction in her career.

2016 NAPLAN Results

I am pleased to report again that the Kilvington 2016 NAPLAN results are highly commendable.  Not only are students in Years 3, 5 ,7 and 9 performing well above the State average in all areas, but the data also reveals that increasing numbers of students are achieving in the upper bands/percentiles.  As we are continually working on challenging all our students to achieve at a higher level, it is most pleasing to see these efforts being reflected in our NAPLAN results.

Please refer to Program Highlights for more details on our 2016 NAPLAN results.

2017 School Leaders

It is my pleasure to announce our new School leaders for 2017, after a rigorous selection process.  Our newly appointed School Leaders are:

  • School Co-Captains: Charan Naidoo and Lauren Rowley, and
  • Vice Co-Captains: Peter Yu and Ally Doyle.

We will soon announce students who have been successful in being appointed to other leadership roles.  Congratulations to these students.

Robotics Teams

During the September holidays, four Robotics teams competed in the RoboCup Junior National Championships in Sydney in the Dance/Theatre and Rescue categories.

Kilvington placed second in the Dance/Theatre and in the Secondary Rescue competition. As it is very difficult to place second in both divisions, this is an exceptional result, one of our best yet.  Sincere thanks to Mr Ram and Ms James for accompanying the teams.

POM Success

Congratulations to the students who participated in the Australian All Star Cheerleading State Championships late last term.  Kilvington had four teams compete – Kilvington Magenta (Years 3 and 4) came 3rd in the Primary School Prom, Blue (Years 5 and 6) came 2nd in the same division, and Gold (Years 7-10) came 6th in the High School Pom division, and White came 2nd in Primary School Level 1.

Global Jaya School Visit

I wish to thank the students and staff who were involved in the Asian and Pacific International Sporting Activities Conference (AISAC), hosted by Kilvington, in the last week of Term 3, which was a stunning success.  Many thanks too to the parents who were prepared to homestay a student or two from Global Jaya School.

Valedictory Day

Next Wednesday the School community will celebrate Valedictory Day. This is a very special day of the year, particularly for Year 12 students, their families and friends.  We eagerly await the opportunity to thank the Year 12 students for their contribution to the School over the years, farewell them in a dignified way, and wish them every success in their upcoming exams.
